Franky’s bringing the SHÈN

After a very long four years, Electric Gardens returns next week with shows in Sydney, Melbourne and two shows in Perth. With the Electric Gardens roster boasting a who’s who in Electronic Music these events will be an experience like no other for Australian EDM fans. We caught up with the mighty Franky Wah to talk all things Electric Gardens,  including what fans can look forward to and who’s set he wants to see.

Franky, you have been announced as one of the Artists performing at the 2024 editions of Electric Gardens, happening this March/April, are you excited to be a part of the post-pandemic return of this much-loved festival?

Definitely! The pandemic was such a turbulent time for the whole industry and live shows especially, so seeing these events back in full force is great.

Will Electric Gardens be the first time you’ve toured Australia? Where or what are you looking forward to most on your visit Downunder?

This will be the second time I’ve been lucky enough to tour Australia and I still feel so privileged that my career allows me to do so. I was first out in 2022 around the release of my mixtape “This Is SHÈN” and it was a crazy experience. The crowds were really up for it and the vibe at all of the shows was second to none.

What can punters expect from your upcoming performance at Electric Gardens? Any surprises planned?

I always try to take people on a journey when I play so it will be the same for this show. I’m at a place now where I tend to play about 90% if not all of my own music so people can expect some unreleased ID’s in there as well.

What’s the one song from your back catalogue that you always slip into a festival set?

My track with Vintage Culture, ‘Alive’ always goes down well in any set I play.

I’m super excited for as we are bringing SHÈN to Australia for the first time

Apart from your own, whose set are you most looking forward to seeing at E.G?

It’s always an experience to watch Sasha play as he was a huge inspiration for me growing up. We’re actually going to be playing a couple of b2b sets on this Australian run of shows. One, in particular, I’m super excited for as we are bringing SHÈN to Australia for the first time for our debut party at Howler in Melbourne. We’ll be playing an extended b2b set and if our last one in Amsterdam was anything to go by, then it’s one not to be missed!

Sideshows are given these days for big festival tours, where can fans catch you while you’re in Australia if they can’t make it to Electric Gardens?

- I’ll be playing Auckland on March 28th, a Boat Party in Brisbane on April 1st and I’ll then be going b2b with Sasha in Adelaide on April 5th and then at our SHÈN showcase in Melbourne on April 6th.

I’m finding more and more inspiration in the places that I’m visiting and the people I’m meeting
— Franky Wah

Besides your passport, what’s the one essential you HAVE to take on the tour, especially on an overseas tour?

Sounds cliche but I’d have to say my laptop. I never really used to produce much when I was on the road but I’m finding more and more inspiration in the places that I’m visiting and the people I’m meeting. Some of my favourite tracks I’ve ever produced have come from a small idea that I’ve quickly recorded and put together whilst I’ve been on the road.

Who in your touring entourage or team deserves a shout out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?

Josh my tour manager as he always knows when I’m hungry and orders food before I’ve even asked for it!
