NYE In The Park 2021
What’s the best way to welcome in a new year if you love great music, live in Sydney and want to avoid the Harbour? NYE In The Park is definitely the answer ! Held in the heart of the city’s CBD at the beautiful Victoria Park, this event has everything covered.
The NYE In The Park event was run over four stages, Amphitheatre Stage, Whatslively Stage, Jungle Stage and the Poof Doof Stage, with each stage providing different music, feel and vibe to cater for all walks of life and music enthusiasts. The stage set-up and locations provided almost four separate parties that allowed patrons to move from one party to the next all in one location. Unlike some events the way the stages were set out in this huge park was acoustically perfect with no cross-over or un-welcome blending.
Every music taste was catered for with a great mix of Hip-Hop, EDM , Alternative, Rock and classic Pop all delivered by some of Australia’s best and most popular artists including Mashd n Kutcher, Illy, Spacey Jane, The Presets, Jimi The Kween and the Poof Doof Jamborie. While some advertised acts were unable to attend due to Covid issues this gave some of the newer faces a second turn on stage, with acts like Chase Zera playing their 6:50 time slot but also filling the void left by Kinder at 11pm on the Jungle Stage.
The crowd was a beautiful mix of sexes, ages, ethnicities and made the experience of NYE In The Park a perfect way to ring in the new year, with a ‘we’re all in this together’ comradery. The collective was well behaved , courteous to others and patient. Given that this was one of the first major festivals since coming out of lockdown, this behavior and attitude was a great show of the Australian spirit and patrons should be congratulated.
The variety of food trucks, from Birdman Chicken to Chips on a Stick to Gozleme, catered for every culinary desire. The Water stations and large multiple of bars kept the fluids up with little wait time. The large police presence ensured there was help close by if it was needed but their day consisted of mainly enjoying the music and posing for photos due to the well behaved, happy crowd.
A couple of notable mentions go to Mashd N Kutcher and YoMafia who set the tone for the event with high energy performances although they had their set time heavily reduced due to some technical issues in the beginning of the day at the main stage. Thandi Phoenix, Sumner and Jimi the Kween all amassed their own large, almost main stage size, energized crowd up at stage 2 and the beautiful ladies at stage 4 for some of the best dance moves I’ve seen, in the biggest heels I’ve ever seen.
