Good Things 2022 Brisbane

4th December 2022

Good Things Brisbane RNA show grounds

Crowd: The crowd was packed and all dressed in black. Everyone was super happy and friendly ready for the first metal fest after Covid. You could feel the excitement in the energy and interactions with other punters, everyone was just happy to be there.

Line up: Bring Me The Horizon, Deftones, The Amity Affliction, Blood Command, Chasing Ghosts, Cosmic Psychos, Electric Callboy, Kiss Chasey and others. See link for full line up https://www.goodthingsfestival.com.au/lineup/

Stages: There were 5 stages all together, 1 and 2 being together and 3 and 4 together to keep the show constantly going with band switch overs. They managed crowds well in terms of going from stage to stage and this did not take long if you needed to run over to another stage to catch another band straight after another act. Getting into the festival was a different story for others as I heard people waiting for 2 plus hours with lines backing up to Brisbane Women’s Hospital. We turned up early for Kiss Chasey and Jinger and got in within 15 mins, stick to the side of the line 😉.

The sound was a different issue, gone are the days you can sneak up the side of a stage to get a decent roomy spot and hear the music well. The speakers did not cater for LSD (Left Side Dancefloor) goers, at Bring Me the Horizon after leaving the mosh we could not hear Ollie singing and had to go back centre where it was still not clear. If you wanted good sound on vocals get in the pit! The base was good though and still gave that excitement any rock concert should hearing the drums from afar.

Security: Security seemed alright, didn’t overly seem to be enjoying themselves in my experience but I got up on a bin for a while to find a friend and they didn’t rush over to get me off which was nice. If I want to hurt myself being a fool let me be.

Amenities: Toilets were at a good amount. There was a permanent toilet block with a huge line but if you walked a bit further there were lots of port-a-loos where I never lined up longer then one person in front of me. Same with water refills but I only went to the same water refill as I was to drunk to find others.

Bars and food: I stopped drinking at about 5 o’clock as it was a Sunday, but didn’t have to much trouble with lines. Drinks expensive as always. Food was a different story, all food trucks were placed on the same ‘street’ that looked like death ally. I had a friend go for food and did not return and said the line took him 2 hours which looked about right. We did not eat until leaving the festival due to not wanting to waste 2 hours of seeing acts.

Merch: There were 4 places to get Merch and the wait time was pretty standard (around 5-10 mins). They had no XXL which is my favourite size as it fits my tall boyfriends length at about 1pm, so as always get in early and carry that shit around.

Notable mentions/highlights: Electric Call Boy really stole the show. All our friends went as a friend highly suggested them and everyone agreed they put on an amazing show. The return of Kiss Chasey was nostalgic also and I would be keen to see them again. Queensland band Amity Affliction as always bring the bangers but that is always expected. Of course headliners Bring me the Horizon also killed it with amazing visuals and energy.
