A Day On The Green - The Script

Set in the heart of the Barossa Valley, Peter Lehmann Wines in Tanunda hosted A Day On The Green on the 2nd of February, a festival event that was headlined by The Script as part of their Satellites world tour to showcase their brand-new album, with locals Lotte Gallagher, X Ambassadors, Montaigne, and Calum Scott completing the lineup.

With food trucks offering a variety of delicious bites and drinks flowing freely, the vibrant atmosphere was further heightened by the day’s program, which brought together an eclectic mix of artists. Each performer contributed to an electric vibe that had the crowd swaying, singing, and dancing long into the night.

With gates opening at 3:00 p.m., festivalgoers began to arrive, settling in with friends and family on deck chairs and rugs, ready for the event to officially kick off at 4:00 p.m. Rising star Lotte Gallagher was the first to take the stage, setting the tone with a gentle yet striking performance with some of her emotional tracks, including 'Adam' and 'Gray’. Gallagher’s powerful vocals, paired with her heartfelt delivery, immediately connected with the crowd, establishing a promising tone for what was to follow.

Next up, X-ambassadors brought an undeniable surge of energy starting with a classic. From their first song ‘Renegades’ to their last ‘Unsteady’, the crowd was hooked. Both tracks, from their second album VHS, showcased the band’s signature blend of rock, electronic beats, and soul-soaked melodies. It was a set that felt both nostalgic and fresh, giving the crowd an early taste of the power-packed performances that were yet to come.

Australian singer-songwriter Montaigne effortlessly showcased her range with her emotional delivery. The crowd was treated to a collection of hits from her debut album Loveloss, which reached #4 on the ARIA charts in 2016, including ‘In The Dark’ and ‘Because I Love You’. Her stage presence was a dynamic mix of intensity and unpredictability, with Montaigne hitting all the high notes and delivering a performance that felt like a wild journey through her musical career.

As the sun began to set, the crowd was ready for Calum Scott, who kicked off his set with his latest single ‘Lighthouse’. With his soulful delivery and a voice that can melt even the coldest of hearts, he captivated the audience. His rendition of ‘Dancing On My Own’ – which has surpassed more than 1 billion streams – combined with a tribute to Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, had the crowd in tears. It was a truly emotional moment, showcasing his ability to connect deeply with his audience. The crowd sang along word for word, creating a cathartic release that felt shared by all

As the night reached its peak, The Script took the stage for their long-awaited return to Adelaide. Their set kicked off with a bang, opening with ‘You Won’t Feel a Thing’, followed by ‘Superheroes’, which had confetti raining down on the crowd, elevating the already energetic atmosphere. The band’s chemistry with the crowd was intense, with frontman Danny O'Donoghue interacting frequently.

As the evening took an emotional turn, The Script dedicated ‘If You Could See Me Now’ to Mark Sheehan, one of the founding members and former lead guitarist, who tragically passed away in 2023. This heartfelt tribute was a fitting reminder of the deep bonds that the band shares not only with one another but also with their fans. As they performed ‘Nothing’, O'Donoghue’s connection with the audience reached its peak, with fans singing every word back, loud and proud.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came during ‘Paint the Town Green’, as fluorescent green confetti erupted over the crowd. It was a visual spectacle that perfectly mirrored the electric energy that had been building all night. After performing their song ‘For the First Time’, the band left the stage as the crowd of over 3000 people kept singing the chorus for at least a minute before The Script reappeared on the stage for 3 more songs. The band continued to bring the hits with a toned-down version of ‘Home Is Where the Hurt Is’ straight into ‘Breakeven’, finishing the night off with the crowd favorite ‘Hall of Fame’ during which the crowd was doused in more confetti singing the iconic chorus at the top of their lungs. It was a powerful way to cap off a night of pure musical joy.

At the end of the night, the crowd slowly began to disperse, but the magic of the night lingered. A Day On The Green in the Barossa Valley proved once again to be an outstanding festival, blending the best in live music with the breathtaking beauty of one of Australia’s most iconic wine regions. Each artist brought something unique to the table, but it was the sense of community, the collective energy, and the emotional moments that truly made the festival a memorable experience for all in attendance. For those who were there, it was a day that will not be easily forgotten. For those who were there, it was not just a concert—it was a shared experience of music, emotion, and unforgettable moments.

Thank you to A Day On The Green, Roundhouse and for looking after us, .
