Eloise - The Drama Queen Tour
Some artists sing to you, some make you feel like they're singing to your soul. On the 21st of October, London-born singer-songwriter Eloise made her way back to Sydney's Factory Theatre to open her my man & me world tour, three years since she'd last been in town and what a night she brought.
The air felt electric, that sensation that blots out every inch of space around you until there is just you, your music and the emotion it evokes. Eloise's sound was sweet and light for once, almost flightless but made it's home in your chest in a way that was delicate, romantic in a subtle way, exposed but still tough and soulful enough to stay long after the track is over.
And passing on tracks like hungover, intertwined, make it better, you, dear, enough and pretend, with my man and me and why don't you want me, the setlist combined the heartfelt emotional sincerity that makes Eloise's music so compelling.
Her music has this way of making love both heartbreaking and beautiful, perfect and complicated all at the same time. There's an indescribable kind of magic in her songs that reminds you of something missing or something lost, something that you're afraid to lose. Eloise's music exists in this place, in-between heartbreak and intimacy, infatuation and love.
For a night, the Factory Theatre became a space in which those feelings could live absent of explanation. No big gestures, just love. The romance was in the sensation, the spirit was in the sound, and the beauty was simply in being here.
Eloise came to Sydney on the promise of live music. But her comeback showed that you don't always need a huge set for a show to truly move you sometimes the best gigs are the ones that sneak up on you, settle inside and refuse to go away.
Some music gets you moving, some music brings you back, some music makes you feel. Eloise makes you feel
