Make Them Suffer - Suffer Forever Tour
Forum, Melbourne, VIC - 05/09/24
The Forum Melbourne was absolutely electric on the night of September 5th, 2024. Metalheads from all corners gathered for what promised to be a night of relentless energy, and Make Them Suffer, along with their incredible supporting acts—Bloom, Spite, and Bury Tomorrow—did not disappoint.
Bloom kicked off the night with a set that immediately captured the crowd’s attention. Their melodic hardcore sound, punctuated by emotive lyrics and tight instrumentals, was a perfect way to start the evening. The band’s raw energy was palpable, and it was clear they were determined to make a lasting impression. Vocalist Jono Hawkey's powerful delivery had the crowd singing along, while the band's dynamic range, shifting from atmospheric intros to crushing breakdowns, set the tone for the night.
Next up was Spite, and they brought an entirely different kind of intensity. Their brutal blend of deathcore and hardcore had the crowd moshing from the first note. Vocals roared through the venue, while the band’s pummeling riffs and relentless drumming created an almost overwhelming wall of sound. Spite’s performance was a whirlwind of aggression, and the pit was a sea of bodies, with fans feeding off the band’s ferocity. If anyone in the audience wasn't already a fan of Spite, they were by the end of their set.
Bury Tomorrow followed, bringing a more polished metalcore sound to the stage. The UK outfit showcased their experience with a set that balanced melody and heaviness perfectly. Vocalist Dani Winter-Bates commanded the stage, effortlessly switching between soaring cleans and visceral screams. The band’s anthemic choruses had the entire venue singing along, while their breakdowns were met with a flurry of headbanging and crowd-surfing. Bury Tomorrow’s set was a masterclass in modern metalcore, and the crowd’s energy was at an all-time high by the time they finished.
Finally, Make Them Suffer took the stage, and the anticipation in the room was palpable. From the moment they launched into their first track, the crowd was in the palm of their hand. The band delivered a setlist that spanned their entire discography, blending their signature mix of symphonic elements with crushing deathcore and metalcore influences. Sean Harmanis’ vocals were on point, seamlessly transitioning between his ferocious growls and haunting cleans. In contrast, keyboardist and clean vocalist Alex Reade added a layer of melody that gave the music its unique depth.
The production was top-notch, with the lighting and sound perfectly complementing the band’s intense performance. The crowd was relentless, with circle pits forming at every opportunity and fans screaming along to every word. As the night came to a close with the band’s explosive finale, it was clear that Make Them Suffer had delivered a performance that would be remembered by everyone in attendance. Each band on the lineup brought something unique to the table, making this one of the most memorable metal shows of the year.
In short, the Forum Melbourne was left in ruins—just as any great metal show should.
Thankyou to Make Them Suffer, Destroy All Lines, Dallas Does Pr and the Forum for having MKA along.
