Sigur Rós - Orchestral Tour - Melbourne

On May 19, 2025, Sigur Rós delivered an ethereal performance at Melbourne's Hamer Hall, marking a triumphant return to Australia with their orchestral tour. Collaborating with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Icelandic trio transformed the venue into a realm of sonic wonder, captivating the audience with their distinctive blend of post-rock and classical elements.

The concert showcased selections from their 2023 album ÁTTA, alongside cherished classics from their extensive catalog. The setlist included evocative pieces such as ‘Blóðberg’, ‘Ekki múkk’ and ‘Starálfur’ each rendered with profound emotional depth. The orchestral arrangements enriched the band's signature soundscapes, adding layers of complexity and resonance that enveloped the hall.

Jónsi's haunting falsetto, combined with the band's atmospheric instrumentation and the orchestra's lush harmonies, created moments of sublime beauty. Tracks like ‘Untitled #1 (Vaka)’ and ‘Untitled #3 (Samskeyti)’ stood out, their minimalist structures amplified by the orchestral accompaniment, leading to crescendos that left the audience in awe.

The visual elements of the performance were equally mesmerizing. Subtle lighting and abstract projections complemented the music, enhancing the immersive experience without overshadowing the sonic artistry.

This sold-out show was a testament to Sigur Rós's ability to evolve and innovate, seamlessly blending genres to create a unique concert experience. Their collaboration with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra not only honored their musical roots but also ventured into new artistic territories, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

Thank you to Sigur Rós, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Secret Sounds, Scrabble PR and the Hamer Hall for having us along.
