Tom Jones proved age is just a number when he took to the stage at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on the 2nd of April, blowing the packed house away with a set that included his most cherished songs and a charm that would melt the heart of even the most fierce critic. Tom who is a music icon that transcends generations wowed crowds with a set list that included fan favourites ‘What’s New Pussycat’, ‘It’s Not Unusual’, ‘Sex Bomb’, ‘Green Grass Of Home’ and ‘Delilah’ just to name a few.

Tom’s Ages & Stages Tour took the audience on a journey through his brilliant career, with songs intertwined with fascinating stories about the stateman’s life and career, including the time he connected with Elvis Presley when they went out to see Chuck Berry perform live in Las Vegas. Each song was accompanied by an introduction or a story, giving the legion of fans a more intimate glimpse into the superstar’s mouth-dropping life experiences.

Performing to a backdrop of images of the man himself as well as visual images presented in real time of the 84-year-old, the production and lighting for this show were just like Tom himself, all class. Joined by a 5-piece band that included his musical director Gary Wallace, Tom brought the nostalgia of a time passed with the classic and almost lost art of a fully live music concert.

Tom Jones’ Ages & Stages Tour is a celebration of a musical icon that delivered exactly what fans wanted from start to finish and I would be highly surprised and a little offended if anyone left the show disappointed, the living legend gave a brilliant performance, he was warm and engaging and conveyed a message of appreciating everyone who had bought a ticket.
