2026 - The Year OF Internet Romance
Melbourne heavy-rock/punk band Internet Romance are preparing to unleash their debut single ‘My Dog’s A Liar’. An explosive, tongue-in-cheek track about a dog who can’t be trusted which was Recorded and produced by Callan Orr at Avalanche Studios. Before the track hits the airwaves we caught up with Internet Romance’s lead singer Tilly Abdallah to chat about ‘My Dog’s A Liar’, the single’s official launch and what the band have planned for 2026.
January 12th sees Internet Romance releasing your debut single ‘My Dog’s A Liar’, tell us about the song? Where did the inspiration for this track come from?
‘My Dog’s A Liar’ is a playful anthem inspired by our singer and guitarist’s dog, Bentley, who’s mastered the art of acting like he’s never been fed. The concept came from a simple question: What if he were human for a day? Picture the world’s biggest tightass, a compulsive liar, and the type of person who’d hustle a cartel with fake narcotics, all wrapped up in a furry little package.
“Our focus was to deliver a song that is unfiltered, bold, and full of attitude.”
Is there a particular line or part of the song stands out for you?
The simplicity of the chorus stands out to us, with the driving guitar riff and relentless, pounding drums, paired with a catchy, almost anthemic melody that gets stuck in your head. The powerful bass gives the whole track a raw, high-energy vibe. Our focus was to deliver a song that is unfiltered, bold, and full of attitude.
“‘My Dog’s A Liar’ was the song that people kept talking about after our shows”
How or why did you choose ‘My Dog’s A Liar’ to be the public’s first taste of Internet Romance?
‘My Dog’s A Liar’ was the song that people kept talking about after our shows, it was the one that stuck in their heads the most, perhaps it’s the catchy chorus. We could tell it had that instant, addictive quality, so it just felt right to make it the first track to share with the world.
How will the group be celebrating the release on the 12th?
We see the 12th as a sneak peek for our track, just the first taste. We want people to hear it, share it with their friends and family, and get excited. The real celebration will come in January at our official single launch at the Worker’s Club on the 16th.
“If you’re all about raw, high-energy tunes, this is the place to be”
The track will officially be launched at The Workers Club in Fitzroy on the 16 th of January, with special guests Serious Crew, The Toranas and Lipstick Grenade. What can fans expect from this event and are there tickets still available?
Get ready for a wild night of loud bands, zero egos, cold beers, nonstop dancing, and pure northside vibes, all in one of Fitzroy's legendary bandrooms. If you're all about raw, high-energy tunes, this is the place to be. Tickets are selling quickly, so grab yours now before they're gone!
“There’s plenty more music on the way”
‘My Dog’s A Liar’ will feature on a future body of work, will this be an EP or a full-length album? And is there a release date yet?
We’re planning to release an EP in the second half of 2026. While we don’t have a set release date yet, there’s plenty more music on the way.
Who in your crew or team deserves a shout out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?
Big shout out to Pete Burgess and Hydra Rehearsal Studios for their incredible support in 2025. Pete, the owner of Hydra, first heard us jamming from the hallways of the studio, and since then, he’s been one of our biggest cheerleaders. He’s connected us with some amazing people in the industry and has been instrumental in making this single launch happen.
Tell us a fun fact. What would you like or do you think fans should know about Internet Romance?
The name Internet Romance comes from the fact that we all met online. So, in a way, the band's name is kind of our origin story!
