Everybody’s Gotta Know OPEN TILL L8
Multi-Platinum Producer, OPEN TILL L8 has exploded onto the Australian artist scene with the release of NOBODY GOTTA KNOW, Featuring YOUNGN LIPZ via the New Levels Label. While anything but new to the industry, having produced the likes of Hooligan Hefs, Kerser and ARMANI, as an artist he has been shrouded in mystery. With the transition from producer to artist, OPEN TILL L8 is set for world domination, with his determined focus on national and international collaborations. We were lucky enough to talk to OPEN TILL L8 before the global take-over commences and find out about the history of ‘Nobody Gotta Know,’how he got his start in music and his plans for hitting the festival circuit in 2022.
For those that haven’t heard your music before, how do you describe your sound?
Well I’d say it’s fairly modern, I try to keep my sound as unique as possible.
Tell us about your new song 'Nobody Gotta Know' that features Youngn Lipz?
It’s quite interesting actually. It was one of the first tracks Youngn Lipz and I worked on, originally as an R&B record. A year later, I decided to revisit the track and gave it an EDM twist, which was then released as my own. That song sat in the vault for a year before it was what it is today.
What does the song mean to you?
The song was originally created when I first met Lipz which was an era within itself, I think it was right after we worked on his first hit ‘Misunderstood’. His approach to the record really captured a moment and I held on to it knowing that it had a lot of potential.
Can we expect an album or are you going to continue with amazing collaborations for single drops?
At the moment I'm working on my debut project which will feature both international and local artists, all of which I'm very excited to have on board.
Who would be your ultimate Collab Partner or partners ?
The Weeknd, Partynextdoor, Bryson Tiller, Drake - these people played a huge part in developing my artistry.
Are there plans for you to tour or hit the festival circuit with life starting to return to a form of normality?
Definitely looking at a 2022 festival run. I have a string of single releases coming up next week and I cant wait to get into touring.
As a producer you are at the top of your game, having worked with some of the popular acts in Australia at the moment including Hooligan Hefs, Kerser, Brothers and Amarni. What made you decide to transition from producer to artist?
Overall I like to see myself as a visionary, whether that be in production or any other field. I’ve never liked to be put in a box and I always like to push my brand to its limits. I eventually see “Open Till L8” branching out into many other fields.
What's been the biggest hurdle or challenge in the cross-over?
I’ve been very fortunate to have a role in the up rise of the Australian music industry and in turn made many friends and networks within the industry. I’ve always had my artistry but the contacts I’ve made have made my career a lot easier to navigate through.
As an artist you are 'shrouded in mystery' which your name is a clear reflection of, what's your reasoning for shielding your identity?
The name “Open Till L8” came to light from a time in my life when I started exploring nightlife and the way music was experienced in that atmosphere and landscape. I really wanted my music to capture that feeling of being in that environment and the unique euphoria that comes with it. At the start of my career I was quite shy and didn’t want to rely on my face to be my brand, however I’ve definitely become more confident in myself and my sound so you’ll start to see more of me.
How did you get your start in music?
I grew up playing soccer and represented NSW before suffering a knee injury in the state final. The doc told me I would be out for a year, so my dad being a musician suggested learning how to make beats in my time at home. It became addictive. I downloaded Fruity Loops, pressed a few buttons, moved over to Cubase, and the rest is history.
Who do you credit as your musical influences?
Definitely Timbaland & The Neptunes. They were my first influences to get into music.
What’s been the highlight in your career so far personally? And why?
Travelling to the US where I was working closely with Reazy Renegade who had Tory Lanez come into the studio after his set at Summer Fest in NY which we were all at together. Witnessing Tory in the studio was a game changer and definitely something I want to do again in the future.
In your journey as a producer/musician have you changed? Is life much different for you from when you started out?
I’m constantly evolving and perfecting my craft. I don’t believe being stagnant as a human in general is a good thing.
Who in your crew or team deserves a shout out but never gets one? And what is it that they do that keeps your world turning?
My manager Jelal Edmonds, he’s a true friend and great business partner. He always keeps me in check and makes sure I’m doing what I set out to do.
What's next for you? What’s in the pipeline for 2022 ?
New music and touring would be the priority.
