Fall for Sky Cave

Perth 3-piece, SKY CAVE have released their hard-hitting single pierced with emotion in ‘FALL’. . A song that shines a light on the destructive effects of untreated depression and given the last few years its a subject matter most of can relate to in one way or another. While the lads were preparing for their Launch show happening on Thursday 11th of August at Mojo’s Bar Fremantle, WA (with Circa the Sun, Cloud Shape and Sgt Hulka) we had a chat with them and asked about ‘Fall’, the makings of Sky Cave and what’s next for the talented trio.

For those that haven’t heard your music before, how do you describe your sound?

Sky Cave’s sound is rather diverse. We believe this comes from not trying to be like anyone else and just making music we love. We have songs all the way from fuzzy rock to indie pop and all the way in between! No limits! There’s usually something for everyone. That’s how we like It!

You have just released your new track 'Fall', what was the inspiration for the song?

‘Fall’ was written around a time in our lives where everything in life seemed a little too much. These last few years I think have been tough for everyone and I could really notice the impact it was having on my mate’s mental health. Some sadly even taking their own lives. I think it’s really important to speak to each other about how you feel, sometimes all it takes is one person to listen to change someone’s whole outlook.

Was the writing and creative process for this song more difficult given the subject matter of 'Fall'?

Not at all! The subject of mental health is actually something I can really relate to and am comfortable to talk about. If anything, the strong emotions behind the song made it very easy to write about and create a general direction for the song! I find the overall process a lot easier when I’m passionate about the subject I’m singing about.

Can fans expect a follow-up album to your debut EP 'Cosmic Ascension' out soon?

We are currently in the process of writing plenty of new material! We will most likely continue with a few more singles and touring alongside them. An EP is definitely on the horizon in the next year though!

Sky Cave did a headline tour across WA earlier this year, are there any plans to bring the tour over to the East coast?

We would absolutely love to bring the party over east! We hope if things go well for us this year that this will become a massive possibility in the future.

How big a part does the band play in the production and mixing of your music?

All three of us love being a part of the whole recording process. We’ve worked alongside some very talented mixers and producers in our time and have learnt a lot along the way. We all love to be together for the whole production and mix side of things so we create a final Product we are all proud of!

How did the three of you come together to form Sky Cave?

This three-piece group formation has actually only happened in the last 6 months! Me and Lachie have known each other for years. We actually started with two other members for a long time however they are both extremely talented musicians and went on to do their own thing. We met Elijah through our old bassist and simply had to snatch him up! He’s extremely talented on the keys and has become an essential member of our group.

Who do you credit as the band's musical influences?

This list is simply too long! Hundreds of bands. Between us, we pretty much delve into every category there is! Blues, rock, psych rock, metal, indie, pop, country you name it the list goes on! This helps us write any category of music we choose or are feeling at the time.

Who in your crew or team deserves a shout-out but never gets one? And what is they do that keeps your world turning?

We have recently obtained a crew member that is seriously irreplaceable and an essential member of the bands operation. His name is Thomas aka Tamascus the King of Rome. He has travelled with us throughout our tours and always keeps the peace when things get out of control. He lives in a van with all the essentials needed to live. A fridge that’s always full of emu export, a hot plate built for BBQs and everything else needed to stay warm on tour. We hope he sticks around forever! Without him, it is said the world would stop turning.

What's next for the band? What have you got in store for fans?

You can expect a lot of new music with an exciting new direction and twist on it. We’ve also got a fair few shows planned for the rest of this year in Perth and around the southwest! Stay tuned I can guarantee we’ll be busier than ever.
