Nick Saady is ‘Amazing’

Nick at this year’s Lunar Electric Festival

Nick Saady is a name on the rise not only on the Sydney club scene but across the ever-expanding festival circuit here in Australia. The recent release of his debut single ‘Amazing’ has demonstrated his talent not only as a DJ but as an artist and as a producer as well, so there was lots to talk about when we caught up with Nick recently. We covered everything in our chat, from him getting his first Deck to his recent appearance at the huge Lunar Electric Festival.

For those that haven’t heard your music before, how do you describe the sound you produce?

My purpose is to make sure that every listener is left satisfied with the sounds they hear by the music I produce. The listeners need to feel the journey, hence why it's all a part of the experience. My music never has a set sound, there is a frequent amount of energy along with downtime. This gives the balance that the audience needs to feel the melodies and beats within.

You released your debut track Amazing in April and it has received a lot of attention. When can we expect your next song to be out?

My first ever release went well however I knew after I released that my sole focus was the rebrand of Nick Saady. I held back from releasing tracks so I could purely focus on the new rebrand and to make sure that Nick Saady 2.0 has something that no one has ever seen! My next track will be released within the next 2 months, there is no set date yet however stay tuned on the socials.

Will you be doing an album or will you be sticking to single releases?

Single releases are my main focus at the moment. That is when I feel the most alive.

How did you get your start in music?

I love this question, It all started when I was on a family trip up coast back in 2013 and on the drive there I heard a song called ‘Liquid Soul & Zyce’ by Anjuna it was on a weird radio station that we never listened to as we were out of Sydney and I just remember falling in love with the EDM world. After that trip, I begged my parents for a year to buy me my first DJ set which was a DDJ SB. After some time of practising, I realised that I didn't just wanna DJ I wanted to produce the music and play it out and I definitely didn’t think I would have come as far as I have today.

I had to play with that fire and experiment with my purpose in the music industry
— Nick Saady

What was the first album or song you remember buying or that had a massive impact on you?

Liquid Soul & Zyce’ by Anjuna was the first ever song that made me realise my capabilities. I knew from that point on that I had a fire in me that couldn't be ignored. I had to play with that fire and experiment with my purpose in the music industry.

Who do you credit as your musical influences?

I have many musical influences, the majority of them being my idols growing up. To name a few; Tiesto, Martin Garrix, David Guetta and Hardwell have all been the most influential to me. These people are on another level and not only influence people in the music industry but every soul. Seeing the type of show they put on for the audience is just insane, the crowd literally goes crazy! Now that's what we're talking about

You play in clubs and at big festival events. Obviously, they are very different in the energy and the audience size, which do you prefer? Clubs or Stadiums?

I love playing at both events, but nothing will change the feeling you get performing in front of a huge crowd at a festival. The effect that a stadium audience has is unreal and can only be felt when you are in that position! In saying so, I am beyond grateful for every club and festival I have played at and will continue to show my gratitude to both as they are both unreal.

The people, the artists, the energy, everything is just on another level.
— Nick Saady

June saw you take the stage at Lunar Electric Festival in Sydney. Do you enjoy playing festivals and being a part of that festival scene and atmosphere? Would you like to do more festival events?

The most simplest answer I could come up with- YES! If I could say yes a million times I would. The people, the artists, the energy, everything is just on another level. You feel the music in your body! There is no competition between artists, no bad energy, the audience is alive and everyone is happy. What more could you want?! It is where I feel most alive.

Do you find festivals present your music to new fans or people who haven’t heard you before?

I mean any event will bring this opportunity to me which I can never be more thankful for. Every day there are new listeners and new supporters, the support just keeps growing. However, staying humble is key and knowing where you came from is the most inspiring aspect.

What are the best and worst parts of being on a multi-artist bill? Do egos ever get in the way or does it just add to the party?

There's pros and cons with everything in life. Pros will most definitely be meeting other talented artists and combining work to produce a work of art. The opportunities that arise and the go go go lifestyle. The worst part is not having that balance of work and life. It is quite difficult. Egos are always bound to come out, no matter what industry you are in. This is the music industry, a place not for the faint-hearted. There is a lot that happens behind closed doors, and that is also okay. If you stay true to yourself and stick to your own plan, you will make it.

Where was your first gig? Was it a success or a flop?

My first gig was one to remember. I was only 13 years old and a school had got in contact with me to be the DJ at a primary school disco. ME Thinking it was the biggest night of my life, I got ready an hour before my set-up time so I could make sure it was the best event. It all began on that night, the night that opened so many doors today.

What's the one word you would use to describe life as a DJ?

Chaotic

Yes, we are talking globally, always aiming for the stars
— Nick Saady

Is there anyone you would like to perform or collab with? Who would be the ultimate Collab Partner for you?

The ultimate collab partner for me would be Tiesto. Yes, we are talking globally, always aiming for the stars. Australian artists would have to be Marlo and Avao. Two of the most talented artists in Australia, never failing to bring out the best.

What's in the pipeline for Nick Saady? What are we going to see you doing next?

Since the re-branding of Nick Saady, our entire concept has changed. I am more determined than ever to bring the people what they desire. I will definitely be doing a lot more shows and releasing more music for my supporters. It is always a journey, even for the artists. And we are always enjoying every step of the way with you guys.
