Sunshine Coast duo The Dreggs have released their debut album ‘Caught In A Reverie’. The highly anticipated album is a celebration of dreamy melodics and lush instrumentals, which fans can experience live when the pair kick off an album tour later this month. Before the Duo hit the road they made time to catch up with MKA to chat about the new album, the upcoming tour and how their very first show panned out.

You have just released your first single for 2024 titled 'Peeps With The Goods'. What inspired the writing of this track?

It’s a song about always wanting what you don’t have. A lot of the time as humans we tend to always look at what’s next, feeling jealous about someone having what you can’t. That’s kind of the basis of the song.

We wanted it to feel like a journey from start to finish. We feel we got pretty close to that.

The new single has been lifted from your forthcoming album 'Caught In A Reverie' which is due out on the 26th of April, what can fans look forward to from this new body of work?

It’s a fairly eclectic body of work, we wanted it to feel like each song has its own space. We both don’t like it if our favourite artist brings out an album and every song is basically the same as the next. We wanted it to feel like a journey from start to finish. We feel we got pretty close to that.

Do you have a favourite track from the album or one that holds a special place for you?

There’s a couple, Peeps With The Goods, Train Left The Station, Look To The Stars have been the funnest songs to learn/play live. We have had a great reception to all of these songs which makes us enjoy playing them even more.

we are a well-oiled machine now as we haven’t really stopped touring for the past 4 years

You first came to the country's attention back in 2017 and this album is your first full length release, why have to waited so long to drop an LP?

Well, we have only been touring for 4 years (two of them during Covid) before that we were a covers band that played at pubs and cafes that did some little tours here and there. Although we are a well-oiled machine now as we haven’t really stopped touring for the past 4 years I think that’s why we haven’t had a heap of music released. We haven’t had time or should I say we never made time. We were so focused on releasing one song just so we can tour again haha. It’s worked for us in the past but now we think it’s time to focus on releasing more music.

You have an album tour that kicks off in June, are you excited to getting back onto stages around the country again?

We can’t describe how excited we are, playing the biggest venues around our home country who wouldn’t be excited. We have played some of these venues before and we haven’t been able to stop talking about them haha.

What can fans expect from the 'Caught In A Reverie' headline show?

We have a 5 piece band coming with us, we are playing of course most of the new album but we will throw a couple of our old classics in there too

What is the first thing you pack into the suitcase when going on tour?

Our Nintendo Switches hahaha

Lucky for us tho we’d played enough cover gigs around the coast to have a big enough following to pull off the show

Where was your first gig as The Dreggs? Was it a success or flop?

Our first show was a ticketed show at Solbar on the Sunshine Coast. Lucky for us tho we’d played enough cover gigs around the coast to have a big enough following to pull off the show. Tickets were $5 on the door and I think around 300 people came. We thought we’d hit the big time, haha

Who in your crew or team deserves a shout-out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?

To be fair we always try at every show to shout out our crew, as each person in our crew is the glue that holds us all together. I’ll name them all here anyway! Opie, Lachie, Noah, Joe, Aidan, Harry, Roland!  These are all the people behind the scenes that make each show what they are!

What's next for The Dreggs? What's in the pipeline for one of Australia's favourite Musical duos?

Another album, more Aus touring and overseas touring!
