Stavroz are heading to CHI WOW WAH TOWN

The 2024 edition of CHI WOW WAH TOWN kicks off in February, with a massive roster of International and Local artists and bands from a variety of genres. Set to take place in the tranquil setting of Winton’s Wetlands over three days this festival has a jam-packed program of Music, Art Installations, Workshops, market stalls and local food trucks. Headlining the festival will be European juggernauts STAVROZ . We caught up with the electronic musical wizards to ask them about what can fans look forward to from their CWWT set, where their planning to visit while in the country and the history & highlights of STAVROZ.

STAVROZ you are heading back to Australia in February next year for the CHI WOW WAH TOWN Festival, what is your favourite thing about playing a festival down under?

One of the standout features of playing festivals in Australia is undoubtedly the unique atmosphere. There's something truly exceptional about the energy and vibe of the Australian crowd. The fans are incredibly enthusiastic, eager and open to new sounds, which creates an electric atmosphere that's hard to find elsewhere.

Is there anywhere you want to visit or anything you want to experience while you're in the country?

While Melbourne and Sydney have always been fantastic cities to explore, we're also keen on venturing into lesser-known gems. Perth, for instance, has always piqued our curiosity. We're eager to immerse ourselves in the local culture, discover hidden spots, and connect with fans from all corners of Australia.

Such exciting opportunities to play in such a unique and natural setting only come once in a while

Are you excited to play this beloved boutique festival happening in the Winton Wetlands?

Absolutely! The prospect of performing at CHI WOW WAH TOWN Festival in the picturesque Winton Wetlands is genuinely exciting for us. Such exciting opportunities to play in such a unique and natural setting only come once in a while, so we're curious about the kind of energy and ambiance it will bring. It's a new adventure we're really looking forward to.

What can punters look forward to from your CHI WOW WAH TOWN set?

Well, we've recently dropped a brand-new EP titled 'Kick Up the Dust,' and you can bet we'll be sharing some of those fresh tracks during our set together with a fresh view on our older music.

For those who haven’t heard your music before, how do you describe the STAVROZ sound?

Our sound is a blend of electronic and acoustic elements. Imagine a musical fusion that's both romantic and groove-inducing, anchored in the realm of house music but with a twist of unpredictability. Best served with mayonnaise.

STAVROZ started out as an electronic duo, what was the catalyst for bringing in two new members and changing the dynamic to a band?

The evolution from a duo to a band was a natural progression for us. When we started crafting our music in the studio, it gradually became clear that we wanted a bigger challenge than just playing DJ sets. In addition, our compositions deserved a live experience. To do justice to our creations and deliver an unforgettable live performance, we expanded our lineup to include additional members who bring their unique talents to the stage.

starting our own label became the logical step in ensuring that our music could reach our fans in the most authentic and timely manner possible.
— Stavroz

You created your own record label titled ‘Moodfamily’ which you released your second single ‘Gold Town’ under, was starting your own label always part of the grand plan for STAVROZ or was this something that happened organically?

The inception of 'Moodfamily' was a journey that unfolded organically. We wanted more creative control and flexibility in our music releases. So, starting our own label became the logical step in ensuring that our music could reach our fans in the most authentic and timely manner possible.

Does releasing under your own label add an extra layer of pressure when you're making new music?

Interestingly, having our own label actually reduces some of the pressure when creating new music. It allows us the freedom to work on our own timeline and experiment with our sound without the constraints of external schedules or people with different opinions. This creative liberty has been invaluable in our artistic journey.

Speaking of ‘Gold Town’, the song was picked up by Rockstar Entertainment for their console game GTA 5, did having your music on such a high profile and popular game expand your fanbase and get your music out to a new audience?

We certainly hope so! Being featured in GTA 5 was a thrilling experience for us. It provided a fantastic platform to showcase our music to a broader audience, including gamers who may not have been familiar with our work. It's a testament to the power of music in reaching new and diverse communities.

we finally had the uninterrupted time and creative focus required to craft our debut album
— Stavroz

After 11 successful years as STAVROZ you released your first album ‘Mindibu’ last year. What made 2022 the right time for that first album?

The release of 'Mindibu' in 2022 was, in many ways, a response to the unique circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic. With live touring temporarily on hold, we finally had the uninterrupted time and creative focus required to craft our debut album. It was an opportune moment to share a more comprehensive body of work with our fans.

Do you play a part in the production side of your music?

Absolutely. We are deeply involved in every aspect of our music production. From composing and arranging the songs to producing and meticulously mixing and even mastering each track, we have a hands-on approach that ensures our music reflects our vision and passion.

Who do you credit as your musical influences?

Our musical influences are diverse and wide-ranging. Artists like James Holden, Pink Floyd, Connan Mockasin, Stimming, DJ Koze, Daniel Norgren, Radiohead and Kevin Morby have all left their mark on our creative journey. Their unique styles and innovations have inspired us in various ways, they’ve been the fuel that drives our commitment to music.

We’re forever grateful to the people that were there at that moment, immediately supporting 4 young guys from their hometown
— Stavroz

Where was your first STAVROZ gig? Was it a success or a flop?

Our inaugural STAVROZ performance took place at the legendary Charlatan in Ghent, and it was an overwhelming success. The venue was packed, and the energy in the room was electrifying. It was a defining moment for us and set the tone for the years to come. We’re forever grateful to the people that were there at that moment, immediately supporting 4 young guys from their hometown. They made us understand we were on to something.

You have played massive festivals like Coachella, Wonderfruit and Tropico to name just a few, you have amassed over half a million monthly listeners on Spotify as well as the previously mentioned had your music picked up for a computer game. So, what has been the highlight of your career so far both personally and professionally? And why?

Choosing a single standout moment from our career is an almost impossible task. Playing at renowned festivals like Fusion Festival, performing in incredible nature, and, of course, releasing our debut album 'Mindibu' have all been incredibly special moments. Each experience has contributed to our growth as artists and has been cherished for its unique significance.

Who in your crew or team deserves a shout out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?

We want to give a heartfelt shoutout to our wives and girlfriends. Their unwavering support, understanding, and patience play an indispensable role in allowing us to pursue our musical passions. They are the hidden heroes behind the scenes who keep our world turning smoothly.

What's next for STAVROZ? What can fans look forward to with 2024 rapidly approaching?

More performances, more miles and some surprises we can’t share yet ;)
