Strap in and enjoy the ride with DUBBEL DROP

Dubbel Drop have followed up their previous releases: ‘Mighty Knight’ & ‘Ecstasy’ with the brand new Disco-House track, ‘BACK 2 U’. The new track released via BE RICH RECORDS , came out last week and is already receiving a lot of attention. The Melbourne duo have been gaining momentum since their summer campaign with food giants, McDonalds, and they have no plans to reign that in any time soon, so we had a chat to the Dubbel Drop boys about the “fuzzy feels” ‘Back 2 U’ gives out, the fun they have remixing other peoples songs and the pressures behind big name support.

For those that haven’t heard your music before , how you describe your sound?

It’s a bit of a mixture of tried and tested French house and disco loops mixed with a bit of 90’s house and techno influence, on a more current production tip. Our main goal is to make music that’s upbeat and fun to listen and dance to!

Tell us about your new song Back 2 U?

We’ve been working on a few songs and were waiting on getting some vocals back, so in the meantime we came across some dope gospel samples and churned it out in about a week! We gave it a couple of road tests at some gigs and it went off, so the rest is history! It’s just a big, warm and fuzzy, feel-good dance floor tune.

What does the song mean to you? Is there a message you hoping fans get out of the new song?

There’s not really any deep meaning or message to it, it’s a fun vocal sample we found and messed with and felt it would connect as a cool, engaging moment on a dance floor. We just hope the punters vibe it and have a good time listening, dancing and singing along to it!

Are there any plans to release a full Album soon or are you going to keep your focus on Singles?

No plans for an album just yet. We've discussed the idea of an extended EP, and we’ve got a few things in the works, so we’ll see how they turn out and if there’s potential vibe for that type of release, we might do a multi-track drop in the future.

With the country opening up are there plans to go on tour soon?

Absolutely! Our agent is currently working hard in preparation for dance floors reopening and we will be hitting the road very soon!

We both have a deep adoration of French house and 90s rave culture, so this bond has definitely been, a big driving factor creatively and we’ve been having heaps of fun making these tracks too.

How did you get your start in music individually and as Dubbel Drop??

We have both been in the scene for a minute now and been friends for a long time. Neither of us had worked on our own artist project for quite some time.  As a result of boredom (due to the Covid restrictions) we decided to start working together on some ideas in the studio. Here we are 3 single releases deep!

Your songs have been given support by the likes of Danny Howard, Fatboy Slim, Chris Lake, Todd Terry, The Magician, Jamie Jones, Leftwing:Kody, Biscits, Jonas Blue, Mighty Mouse and TCTS, is hearing that a wow moment you or does it add a layer of pressure to that did that didnt exsist before?

Not gonna lie, there’s definitely a bit of pressure attached there, because some of the names you mentioned we really look up to and they are somewhat our idols. At the same time, we couldn’t be more stoked that they’re supporting our music and it feels very validating that what we are doing is connecting with people like this.

How big is part you play in the production side of your music?

We are the producers! ;)

Who do you credit as your musical influences?

So many to name but some big ones are: Armand Van Helden, Stardust, Soulwax / 2 Many DJs, Boys Noize, Cassius, A-trak, The Magician, Daft Punk, MK, Fatboy Slim, The Phantom’s Revenge, Todd Terry… also a few Hip Hop production lords like: J Dilla, Pharrell, Ye, RZA and DJ Premier.

Who would be your ultimate music Collab Partner be?

Oh wow that’s such a huge question, def not sure where to start, but it would be dope and completely surreal to be in a studio session with Rick Rubin or even getting vocals from Charli XCX would tick a huge box for us too. There are so many talented Aussies out there currently that we’d love to collab with, like: Winston Surfshirt, Tkay Maidza, Baker Boy, Northeast Party House, Cosmos Midnight… too many to name here!

It’s really fun taking somebody else’s creative work, pulling it apart and going in a completely different direction and vibe from the original.

You have done remixes for Aussie greats Friendless, Sgt Slick and Beks  what do you enjoy most about re- working other people's songs?

It’s really fun taking somebody else’s creative work, pulling it apart and going in a completely different direction and vibe from the original. It’s exciting to see how and where you can take things in your own style.

Will you continue to do remixes,  as your popularity grows?

Absolutely! We LOVE remixing! It might take a bit of a back seat as we focus on writing our own music, but we are always down to remix something, if it fits our vibe!

What can Dubbel Dropees'  look forward to from you in 2022?

We’ve got a few things planned just around the corner, new tunes and some shows to announce, so strap in and enjoy the ride! ;)
