Youngr for life
UK-based multi-talented musician Youngr is heading to Australia for a string of headline shows next month and we can’t wait. Since his break-through in 2016 with his self-released debut solo single ‘Out of My System,’ Aussie fans have been desperate for a chance to see this musical wizard live and now the highly anticipated tour is here we took the opportunity to ask Youngr about it, what he is looking forward to and about that cover of ‘Horses’
For those who haven’t heard your music before, how do you describe your sound?
It's uplifting. A fusion of dance, pop and alternative, and very energetic!

You’re headed to Australia in December for your very first headline tour downunder, are you excited to be finally able to tour here?
Yes, I'm so excited! I think I got a gig offer for the first time seven or eight years ago when I released Sweet Disposition and we just haven't been able to make it work in all that time. So, the fact that my flights are booked is incredible and very, very exciting
What can punters expect from a Youngr show? What are you expecting from the Aussie attendees?
People can expect me to be out there shaking my big fluffy hair, they can expect me to be smiling, dancing, and putting my hands in the air like I just don't care. You know, great feel-good music.

What are you most excited to see or experience while in the country?
From what I've heard from DJs and bands that have been out there, I’ve heard that it’s absolutely incredible. It's an incredible place to tour. You guys just know how to party and you love live music. And you guys just sound like you're up for a good time. So, I'm up for it!
This is going to sound really sad, but I'm really excited about the coffee. Because I don't live anywhere near a good coffee shop. Well, there's one, but that's within about a two-hour radius. So, I'm very excited to have a great coffee shop on every corner which is a very sad thing to be excited about. But you know, it's the small things in life that get you through!
You have just released a new version of the Aussie classic ‘Horses’, how did you discover this iconic track?
I discovered it through one of my great friends Laura who works at Subsonic Festival, she was here in Wales visiting and she told me “Dario you've got to do a cover of this song it's like an Aussie national anthem!” I'd never heard it before but it’s a great track. I saw a few videos of Harry Styles doing it and thought this sounded a lot of fun. I might be playing it live as well!
You have arrived in the middle of our festival season; will you be attending any while you are in the country?
Not as a punter unfortunately as the tour schedule is pretty crazy so I’m in, out, shake it all about. However, you can catch me on the line-up of Subsonic Festival on 9th December!

Who in your crew or team deserves a shout-out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?
Oh, wow. In all my time, nobody has ever asked me that as a question. What a wonderful, wonderful question!
You know what personally, it’s Jesse because Jesse never gets a shoutout. He’s my manager. Everyone gets a shoutout on the road, you know, the tour manager the tech team, but the manager just kind of lurks in the shadows and just does his thing and he never really gets the admiration he deserves. So, Jesse, thank you, bro. Thank you for babysitting me all these years!

How is your 2024 looking so far? What can Youngr fans look forward to?
In April I'm going to put together an album. Some of the singles have been released already and a couple of new ones. And then I'm going to keep releasing straight after because I’ve got so much music ready to go. I'm like a fountain of creativity right now! There's just music falling out of me. So, there's going to be all of that if my little children will allow that.
