Dubbel Drop with Ecstasy

The Melbourne based duo DUBBEL DROP have released the anthem of Summer and thanks to a deal with global giant McDonalds you’re going to be “Lovin’ it”. ECSTASY by DUBBEL DROP is the summer advertising anthem for the world famous brand, and will be used for TV and the social media campaign for our sunny months. This would be a massive deal for any band but for a band with only two songs under their belt this a mind blowing opportunity. We got to quiz the Duo on this “Golden Ticket” , the company’s support of Australian music and their homage to the festival scene and it’s return.

2021 is a year most in the music industry  have written off as a non event. Dubbel Drop, for you it has been what will go down as one of the greatest years of your life. Is that fair to say?

Hahaha big call right out of the gates!

We have definitely been having a lot of fun making music and the response has been absolutely amazing! All the wins have been a shining light for us during a pretty dark time for a lot of people in the music and entertainment industry, so it’s pretty humbling that we have been able to bring some good vibes to everyone during what’s been a pretty hard last few months in lockdown. If we are able to get out there and play some gigs for everybody before the year is out (cause let’s be honest we deserve it don’t we?!) that will hopefully rectify 2021 for us!

Your song Ecstasy is now the official anthem of the summer advertising campaign for McDonalds Australia, which is a HUGE launch pad for the band, both here and abroad . How did this deal come about seeing as this is just your second single to be released?

Yeah crazy huh!? When we got that email request we were pretty blown away!

Unfortunately there’s not a hugely crazy story to tell here, the music supervisor for McDonalds Australia hit us up to say she heard our song, pitched it to the good folks over there and they loved it and wanted to use it for their upcoming advertising campaign - of course we couldn’t say no! We can’t wait to see what happens next to be honest and pretty excited about it to say the least!

Musicians are always the first to step up to the plate in times of crisis to raise funds and help those in need - it’s probably a good time to pay it back right?

Mcdonalds are doing their part and showing their support of the Australia Music Industry in what has been such a tough year, do you think this is a trend that should be followed by other Multi- National companies that are established here? At least in their Australian Media campaigns?

Absolutely! We have such an amazing array of talented musos in Australia and it’s heartbreaking that we may have lost some of them to the financial pressures of the pandemic restrictions we have endured for so long now. If there is any way for big brands and companies who have fared well during this tough time to support Australian artists to get back on their feet, then get on it yo! As we all know, musicians are always the first to step up to the plate in times of crisis to raise funds and help those in need - it’s probably a good time to pay it back right?

Remixes of Ecstasy by Wongo, Jerk Boy and Super Club Disco have been announced. What’s it like to have other artists play with your songs? And when can we expect the remixes to be released?

Oh yeah it’s so much fun to hear what other artists we love and admire do with our songs! All of them totally nailed a vibe and you will be able to hear them for yourself when they drop on the 22nd October.

Ecstasy is a ‘tribute to the return of music festivals and the legacy of parties’. Are you counting down the days till we can dance and party together again?

OMG YES!! We had so much fun making this track and we really wanted to make something that would resonate with a big festival atmosphere, bringing smiles, love and good times to a big sweaty crowd that’s up for it. We hold the experiences we have had at festivals and raves over the years so dear to our hearts, so we hope once all this craziness is over we can get back to doing a lot more of that!

Will we see Dubbel Drop joining the festival circuit this summer?

If Dan Andrews gives us the all clear, you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll be seeing these spicy boys out causing some mischief and playing some bangers over summer for sure! ;)

You have already received amazing support from Australia’s iconic Radio station Triple J as well as lots of airtime on UK radio stations Kiss FM and BBC Radio 1, did this support, especially from Britain, come as a surprise to you?

Massively! We are stoked that this song has connected with so many people and the support we have received on radio has been overwhelming to say the least. The legends over at Triple J and Unearthed have been supporters since day one with our first single ‘Mighty Knight’ and now with ‘Ecstasy’, we are so grateful they are continuing to bolster what we are doing within the local scene so early on.

Knowing that our songs have been hitting the ears of people via radio stations across the globe like BBC Radio 1 and Kiss FM, especially in a dance music mecca like the UK, is a dream come true.

You have stated you would like to collaborate  and ‘share sonic vibes’ Who are the  ‘like minded creatives’  you would like to join forces with?

Wow that’s such a long ended question, but a great one nonetheless!

We definitely have a few idols we would totally fanboy out over working with in a music capacity, but we are both also really inspired by a lot of creative endeavours such as art, design, film, food and fashion. So when we refer to likeminded creatives, this could be collaborating on anything from a song, a music video, a merchandise line or providing the music for a runway show or art exhibition. We would love to have the opportunity to share ideas and inspirations with others who we have some creative synergy with.

Where was your first gig together as Dubbel Drop? Was it a success or flop?

At one our favourite club venues in Melbourne, Pawn & Co. Not sure it’s possible to have a flop gig in that joint, the vibe is always hot, the crowd is up for it and the dance floor energy goes hard until the wee hours. We can’t wait until we can get back in there and see all your naughty faces again!!

Who in your crew or team deserves a shout out but never gets one? And what do they do that keeps your world turning?

Our team isn’t huge yet, but we should probably shout out our booking agent Jess over at Niche Productions for taking us on at such a crazy and uncertain time for live music and touring in Australia. It means a lot that she believes in what we are doing so much to want to work with us, we can’t wait until we can get out there and play some shows so give her a shout if you want to party with us!

What's next for you? What can we expect after the summer explosion of Dubbel Drop?

We are trying to work through some demos and new ideas whilst in lockdown right now, whilst we can we are pretty focused on getting some of these songs finished and ready to drop in early 2022. We are just riding this wave and taking things as they come, once we are back in the real world post-lockdown it’s definitely game on though.

In the more immediate future other than the Ecstasy remixes about to drop, we also have a remix we did for Beks coming out at the end of October. If you don’t know about her yet go check her out, she is awesome!
