Pat Tierney’s Top 4 Songs He Wishes He’d Written

‘PLEASURE & PAIN’ - BEN HARPER
: The quintessential slide guitar song of my generation. Anyone who picks up the lap slide guitar, this is one of the first songs to learn, well it should be! Masterfully simple, hauntingly beautiful lyrics, an acoustic folk classic that has inspired so many.

‘FOUR SEASONS IN ONE DAY’ - CROWDED HOUSE :
I’d say along with Bob Dylan Cat Stevens and The Beatles, hearing Crowded House is one of my earliest musical memories. This song though slays me. The melody, lyrics and imagery are just sublime. There’s a darkness to it as well which I love.

‘RING THEM BELLS’ - BOB DYLAN :
I could have chosen dozens of Bob songs, but this one is a recent favourite. This one strikes deep in the soul, like a beautiful sunrise.  Bob is the master of imagery and taking you into his own mini movie with his music. We are forever in his debt.

HARRY MANX - DON’T YOU FORGET TO MISS ME :
I first heard this one as a teenager and was floored. Beautiful lyrics and the banjitar progression is incredible. It’s definitely been a big inspiration over the years to draw from.
