South Summit’s Top 4 Albums That Changed Their Lives

Only By The Night - Kings Of Leon

Kings Of Leon have always been one of my faves. ‘Only By The Night’ (2008), one of their more iconic albums definitely has a strong influence to our sound and our composition of Album structure. While it has popular singles like ‘Use Somebody’, ‘Notion’, ‘Sex On Fire’, it also has a great ambience of tracks that just create a vibe of the record that’s so unique. With tracks like ‘Manhattan’, ‘Closer’, and ‘Revelry’, it brings a strong identity to the album of being atmospheric, washed-out, reverberating, and anthemic. This ambience is contrasted to the occasional rockier numbers that really stick out with a whole new sound very nicely. Overall, a 10/10 album, with class production, that holds a very special place in my musical library.

Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Stadium Arcadium' holds a special place in my music collection. The album's impeccable production and mixing enhance its captivating sound. Tracks like 'Charlie,' 'Desecration Smile,' and 'We Believe' showcase the band's unique blend of rock and funk that I absolutely love. This record feels like a comprehensive snapshot of what the Chili Peppers represent, making it a top contender for one of my all-time favourites.

Rumours - Fleetwood Mac

'Rumours' by Fleetwood Mac was super influential because it had a unique sound that combined catchy melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and amazing harmonies. It set a new standard for songwriting and production, inspiring me to create music that was just as cool and emotional. It became a timeless classic that continues to impact the music industry to this day.

Humbug - Arctic Monkeys

When i was around 9 or 10 my dad introduced me to Arctic Monkeys and it blew my mind a bit for multiple reasons. I’d never heard songs like that before. The punkish but then also sometimes sad sound was so new and unique to me, i was hooked straight away. At the same time i had started some guitar lessons, and was picking up the ability to listen and seperate the different instrument parts in songs. This coupled with the songwriting skill of Arctic Monkeys was a new experience that completely changed my view of music. My favourite track on the album is a difficult choice to make but i think i’d choose ‘Cornerstone’. That song really gripped me with it’s lyrics, specifically the style of writing and words Alex uses to convey his story that is also present in all their other songs. There was a good few years where i knew every single word to every Arctic Monkeys song, and would shout along to them on every car trip with my family.
