Queency - Purple Diamonds

Queency, is a Perth based Singer/Songwriter and performer set to release his “Purple Diamonds” EP November 24th. The “Prince of Soul” is also known as Quentin Thony — the frontman of Soukouss Internationale, a nine-piece outfit and multi-cultural collective which has captured audiences all over WA. The debut EP, “Purple Diamonds” takes personal inspiration from Queency’s own life and is a project in which he has poured his “soul, sweat and tears” into.

The 5 track EP is motivated by Queency’s tropical roots and is a blend of funky, soulful pop with deep Rhythm & Blues. “Purple Diamonds” is both a thoughtful and well composed story about relationships. It is a journey from seduction to an infectious pop sound and a fade out to more pensive blues.

The opening track “Forbidden Fruit” is a slow and sexy tale of soul, one that sings of hopes and dreams in love.

The eponymous “Purple Diamonds” encompasses 80’s sounds and pays a direct homage to Prince, Whitney and Michael Jackson all in the one song, written entirely by Queency, and arranged by Ethan French and produced by Kruger James.

“I Wished on a Star” is a slow and funky modern take on R&B. Queency showcases both deep lyricism and his vocal range within this stand out track.

“Too Late” provokes a thoughtful and longing tempo, saturated in brass blues. Queency traverses low and high notes throughout this track, both musically and vocally.

The EP closes with “When Daddy Left” - is a bittersweet gospel and tells a story of sadness and being left behind.

The “Purple Diamonds” EP by Queency is set for release on 24th November.
