GAMMON with J-MILLA

2023 has been a milestone year for the young Adelaide-based, Darwin performer J-MILLA, who has earned national attention through his spirited tracks ‘NICEST’ and the hugely successful ‘On My Soul’, with the latter propelling J-MILLA further onto national and international radars, attracting Australian industry-wide praise via triple j, Triple J Unearthed and Acclaim, as well as a co-sign from U.S. hip hop DJ and radio personality Ebro Darden, via his Apple Music 1 show, The Ebro Show. Now the Australian hip-hop and R&B artist has released his new track ‘Gammon’ and we caught up with him to ask about the new track, his experience at Big Sound and what is next for this rising star.

LÂLKA the creator

Borneo-born, Meanjin/Brisbane-based artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ LÂLKA has released the glossy but "hyperintense" Romance + Rebellion, the title track from her forthcoming mixtape. The mixtape will be released independently on Friday the 2nd of June, launching with an accessibility-minded hometown show on the 18th of next month. We got the opportunity to talk to LALKA and ask her about Romance + Rebellion, her upcoming launch and the many labels she carries proudly.

Siobhan Cotchin is Miss Reckless

Siobhan Cotchin has returned with a fierce and empowered new single ‘If God Is A Man’. This latest single tells of her opposition to the discrimination and hatred she has witnessed across the globe. ‘If God Is A Man’ comes from Siobhan’s sophomore EP ‘Miss Reckless’, which also features previously released singles ‘How Does It Feel’ & ‘When The Curtains Close’. Siobhan took a break in her hectic touring schedule to chat to us about the new track, touring with Kingswood and that time she met Phoebe Bridgers at the Laneway Festival.

Bad Pony is Forever Up & Coming

After 10 years together as a band, 12 national tours and 3 international shows, Bad Pony have released their long awaited debut album, ‘Forever Up & Coming’. An album that has been 3 years in the making and the band couldnt be happier to finally have it out in the world and not saved on “on a private Soundcloud playlist”. Shift Your Focus To Hallie

Rising queer indie-pop artist Hallie (they/she) has dropped their newest single ‘Shift The Focus’, the song showcasing Hallie's innate pop instincts yet again and leaves the listener wanting more. ‘Shift The Focus’ comes from Hallie’s debut EP ‘This Is Love’ which has also just recently been released. While Hallie catches her breath after a busy few weeks, we took the opportunity to talk ask Hallie about the new music, touring with Teenage Dad in March and equality & acceptance in Australia.

No Changes needed for South Summit

Following on from a year that saw them play a bunch of festivals, be named as “indie role models for reconciliation”, as well as triple j’s 2022 “ones to watch”, South Summit have kicked off 2023 with the release of their new EP ‘Creatures’ and the recent announcement of a national tour that kicks off in March. Jet City Sports Club's Green Thumb

The Sydney 4-piece Jet City Sports Club have just released their new indie-pop tune ‘Green Thumb’’ while also bringing their music to audiences along the East Coast. The band are not only completing their own headline shows but they are also supporting The Vanns on their NSW FNC tour. Kav Temperley’s Graduation Day

Eskimo Joe frontman Kav Temperley has released our first taste of his second solo album ‘Machines of Love & Grace’. Spiderbait have just released their latest album ‘Sounds in the key of J’, an album of homage to their Bass player and Vocalist Janet English and before the band hits the road for their first National Tour since 2017, we had the absolute privilege to chat to Drummer/Vocalist KRAM about the new album, the bands love of Janet and the enjoyment they get playing festivals.

Solid Gold for False London

FALSE LONDON is a band born out of necessity during the midst of a pandemic, established as a four piece from all corners of Greater Sydney and described as '“outspoken, unafraid and radically honest’ the band work hard to make sure their music is in sync with those labels and is demonstrated perfectly by their latest single ‘Solid Gold’. This would be a massive deal for any band but for a band with only two songs under their belt this a mind blowing opportunity. We got to quiz the Duo on this “Golden Ticket” , the company’s support of Australian music and their homage to the festival scene and it’s return.

‘She Dont Care’ but Eli does !

Eli Greeneyes is exactly the kind of artist we need right now, eccentric, exciting, guitar-driven pop with a classic Oasis and Something For Kate sound with a touch of modern pop rulers Yungblud and even Billie Eilish. Not only is Eli Greeneyes producing killer tracks for himself, but he’s also collaborating with other artists, most recently collaborating with Perth hip hop royalty DRAPHT on his new song “Hypocrite” . Eli Greeneyes is joining DRAPHT on the road for his WA Album Tour in October and November this year, so before Eli hits touring mode we took the time to talk to him about the new song and its importance, his influences and his Trent Reznor collaboration aspirations.
