KEL’s Top 4 Indie Pop Singles So Far In 2023
October Passed Me By - girl in red
I chose this song because I love the songwriting, the title alone sets the story and I love listening to it each time. I also love the build up from just the guitar to the larger production, it’s super exciting to listen to.
SITTING IN TRAFFIC - Ruel
I love the chorus, it’s so catchy but also still very thoughtful songwriting. Production-wise I love how the song takes 4 simple chords that repeat and turn it into a really interesting arrangement with the guitar and drums.
Doomsday - Lizzy McApline
I love the feel of this song, it matches the title. The production feels dark and the chords are not what you typically hear in most pop music - the songwriting again is so well crafted and I always scream the lyrics in the bridge. It’s so good,
Ripple - Sycco
I saw this song live at Laneway in Sydney this year, I love the more experimental take on sounds with this song, where her voice drives the song rhythmically as well. It’s the type of music that makes you move.
