Ipswich Cup Infield Festival 2022

Ipswich Cup Infield Festival - 18/06/22 Ipswich, Qld

Now I wasn’t intending to do a review of Infield but I feel compelled to write something here about this hardly talked about event on the festival Calendar. The Infield Festival may be huge in Ipswich and possibly even well known throughout Queensland, but if you live outside of the sunshine state you probably haven’t heard of it or got it on your “Festival Bucket List”. You need to add it NOW !!.

Infield takes place in the center of the Ipswich Turf Club’s racing track, while the annual Ipswich Cup Race Day takes place on the outside. I at first wasn’t sure how this would all work given Horses, especially race Horses are so skitty, but it works. It works amazingly well. While the bass had to be toned down a little during the actual races, if I’m honest with you the slight disruption goes on barely noticed by the festival punters in attendance. It is also the only festival we have attended where bra’s were being flung up onto the stage making for some funny but awkward moments for one set of DJ’s.

Upon talking to the locals, this event has been running for a few years and is something the area’s festival fanatics look forward to, but in no way does this limit the audience as it also appears to be the town’s biggest social outing for the under 55’s all year and what a party they make it.

You have all the fashion you would expect at a “Cup” event with a splattering of some festival attire, you have private marquees where the alcohol flowed and food was constantly being served up to masses and to top it off you had some of our finest Australian DJ’s delivering some on the hottest music. The atmosphere is truly something unique and even if you’re not an EDM or a horse racing fan we highly recommend you attend at least once.

Infield is like putting your favourite Australian EDM Festival in a blender, add a good helping of the Melbourne Cup and then add a dash of regional friendliness and the result is a super fun day and that has us already looking forward to the 2023 edition.

A huge Thankyou goes to Mitch Spurrier, Director of the Infield Festival for not only delivering a killer event but also the invitation to attend and his generous hospitality. Thanks also to the angel that is Angie from Xposed Media for bringing the event to our attention here at MFA. Now for the Artists TENZIN, Mashd n Kutcher, KAITLYN, BAO, Zida Gray, Moss, Liron, Liam Connor & Pickles - Thankyou for not only your time but for being a really nice bunch of humans. You would be some of the friendliest and most down to earth and in no way pretentious group of artists we have encountered and it was a pleasure to meet you all. See you in 2023…Ipswich.
