Amy Shark See U Somewhere Australia Tour
Amy Shark See U Somewhere Australia Tour - The Glass House, Port Macquarie, N.S.W
30/06/22
The 30th of June saw Amy Shark descend on Port Macquarie for her ‘See U Somewhere Australia Tour’ with Adam Newling as her support, and it wasn’t just good it was brilliant. The two super talented singer/songwriters really put on an amazing and engaging stage show that showcased the high quality musicians they are.
Adam Newling started the night off with some humorous banter and used his jokes and funny one liners to fill the gaps between songs. Adam played the guitar and harmonica simultaneously and did not miss a beat. He gave us a little back story to each of his songs including ‘Dad and Disorderly’, ‘Morning Breath’ and ‘Leatherface’ which was about his ex-girlfriend that broke his heart and spent too much time tanning in the sun. ‘Playing For The Losing Side’ was written by Adam after the devastating floods that affected SE Qld and Northern NSW in February and March of this year, with Adam having to move out of his home in Murwillumbah which was in the heart of the devastation. He invited everyone to come say “Hello” after the show (which both kids and adults did while Adam manned his own merch stand) and then he gave the fans what they wanted, his big hits ‘Singing Blackbird’ and ‘Sweetness’ to close out his set.
Then it was time for Miss Amy Shark. The lights dimmed, the energy increased and the vibe went through the roof the moment Amy took the stage. There was no warming up she went straight into it with a bang playing ‘Everybody Rise’ and ‘All Loved Up’. Amy warned of the journey she was going to take us on, easing us in with some mellow stuff before she destroyed us, which she did with hit after hit, playing ‘Miss You’ and then ‘The Idiot’ a song about her ex-boyfriend. Amy then played a song that she personally loves off her first EP ‘Blood Brothers’ and then it was onto ‘Worst Day Of My Life’.
The beautiful songbird expressed how she uses writing her music to deal with her hard situations and how grateful she is to receive fan messages expressing peoples thanks for her music helping them get through their own tough times. It was after this tender moment that she launched into ‘All The Lies About Me’ . Amy explained how she had been encouraged to go straight back overseas after finishing her Australian major cities tour, but she had made the decision, she wanted to get out to the regional centers of the country to give all her fans a taste of the Amy Shark experience, which she is doing with this current tour and her small town fans are so very thankful.
‘Weekends’ was next up and then came the “just you and me” songs ‘You’ll Never Meet Anyone Like Me Again’ and ‘Lonely Still’ which Amy performed up close and personal with the crowd by sitting on the front of the stage in arms length of the first few rows. She played her track ‘Psycho’ the song she made with Mark Hoppus from Blink 182, it was then that fans learned was her favourite band of all time. ‘C’mon’ was the next hit played, a track which featured Travis Barker then to everyone’s surprise came a medley that included Tina Turner’s ‘Simply The Best’ and The Killers ‘Mr Brightside’.
Amy took time out to thank her band and her crew for all their hard work before launching into ‘Mess Her up’ and then the lady who hates “cheesy” encores delivered exactly what she promised, four of her biggest songs to close out the night. The crowd cheered and some even started dancing in the aisles as ‘Baby Steps’ and ‘Adore You’ were belted out by Amy. ‘Love songs Aren’t For Us’, Amy’s duet with Keith Urban had the crowd singing along and then in an ironic twist the show ended with the smash hit ‘I Said Hi’ and with that the magical experience of watching one of the countries most talented singers of this generation had completed her first ever show in Port Macquarie.
While it wasn't the first time this reviewer had seen Amy play having seen her at The Grass Is Greener Festival in 2019 it was the first time the people of Port Macquarie had been treated to exquisitely talented Miss Shark and boy did they lap up every last second of this show. I can almost guarantee there will be a whole bunch of young girls singing her hits into their hair brushes for a long time to come , such is the impact of seeing Amy live had on them, going by the smiling and awestruck faces as the lights came on and the venue cleared.
It’s not often you go to a concert and it is like listening to the radio or your playlist, and neither was this show. IT WAS BETTER ! If you get the opportunity to attend Amy’s ‘See U Somewhere Tour’…GO! You won’t be disappointed. Even if you’re not a fan, you will be by the time you leave… IT WAS THAT GOOD!
We would like to thank firstly Amy and Adam for the killer show, Handsome Tours & Select Music for having us along, Emily and Fiona at On The Map PR and the wonderful staff from The Glasshouse in Port Macquarie.
