COG - Walk The Line Tour - Hobart
Australian rock legends COG brought their Walk The Line tour to Tasmania. A decade since they’ve graced our shores . I saw them back then in my hometown and it was a special gig.
Now theyre back in Tassie, playing the iconic 110 year old Odeon theatre in Hobart.
Penrose Way opened the night, a technical and tight instrumental group hailing from far north Queensland.
They eased the crowd in with their jazzy rifts and punchy bass lines. They took us on a journey that culminated into a big bright choir of math metal , impossible shapes in audio form.
Sydney based Solkyri were up next. A dynamic and complex group of musicians that offer an aggresive yet ethereal sound . Their tracks build into mesmerizing climaxes as you’re hit with this emotional wall of vibration that taps into the rhythm of your body and tells you a story , these guys don’t need vocals to tell those tales either. They’ve been touring with COG and playing new music from their 2025 album Cranebrook.
Both support acts blew the lid off the Odeon theatre and really built the crowd up and dragged us in for a ride.
COG hit the stage to a packed house of passionate and pumped up fans.
They opened their set with - The Doors, a track off their 2005 album The New Normal. A slow ambient build into a raw melodic breakdown , the perfect way to set the tone for a night of COG.
They moved into a well known track- Are you Interested and the sing alongs began .
A packed set list including old fan favourites like Resonate and Drawn Together. New hits like the title track Walk The Line prove that COG are still making powerful music that really resonates with people .
Its been 6 years since COG released new music and Flynn Gowers voice is as thunderous and mesmerising as ever . A solid groovy bass line from Flynn’s brother Luke drives them. Behind the brothers sits one of Australia’s most capable and dynamic drummers - Lucius Borich.
Walk The Line is loud , emotional and atmospheric. It very quickly draws you in and holds onto you.
Politically charged and heavy lyrics surround you as youre carried through by a deep raw groove .
Their technical prowess , ability to consistently write and perform meaningful authentic music and their compatibilty as a trio came together to make a memorable night.
COG proved again they are one of Australia’s top tier touring acts.
In COG we trust.
