Pierce Brothers - Everything Is Bigger Than Me Album Tour

Special Guests - Little Quirks

Sydney, NSW - 02/05/24

On Thursday, the pulsating heart of Sydney’s music scene beat loud and clear as the Pierce Brothers took to the stage at the Lansdowne Hotel, delivering a spellbinding performance that could only be described as electric. Touring for their latest, and first self-produced album "Everything is Bigger Than Me" the dynamic duo managed to turn the upstairs bar into a fervent ground of musical ecstasy.

From the moment the Welcome to Country honoured the Gadigal land, the venue brimmed with an air of reverence and excitement. The tightly packed, energetic crowd surged close to the stage, where twins Jack and Patrick Pierce, alongside a skilled keyboard player brought an arsenal of instruments to life. Jack’s eclectic use of guitar, mandolin, snare, floor tom, djembe, cymbal, stomp box, harmonica, sample pad, and didgeridoo in synchrony with Pat’s guitar and harmonies painted a vibrant soundscape that was nothing short of mesmerizing.

The Pierce Brothers’ electrifying performance at the Lansdowne Hotel in Sydney was a soul-stirring journey through their robust discography, kicked off with the introspective "Studio” a song that reflects on the costs of musical obsession. Following this powerful opener, "Genevieve" lifted the energy, drawing the audience into a narrative rich with emotion and melody, setting the tone for a night of profound musical storytelling.

This was followed by "It's Alright” a reassuring anthem about acceptance and the passage of time, echoing their own experiences and reflections shared in recent interviews about their career’s progression and the personal evolutions they have faced.

"Amsterdam" then transported the audience to their earlier European tours, reminiscent of their performances at iconic venues like Paradiso, bringing a touch of nostalgia and a sense of how far they’ve come. The song "Bottle," a deeper dive into personal struggles and redemption, showcased their ability to blend poignant lyrics with compelling melodies, resonating with the audience’s own experiences and struggles.

"Trip Lovers" and "Wilder" further highlighted the Pierce Brothers’ flair for capturing the wild, untamed aspects of life and love, with "Wilder" being particularly emblematic of their free-spirited nature. The hauntingly beautiful "White Dress" slowed down the tempo, offering a narrative deeply personal to Patrick, as hinted at in his recent musings about significant life moments such as his wedding day.

"Self Portrait" provided an introspective look into self-reflection and identity, a theme that resonates strongly with their recent discussions on personal growth and artistic authenticity. "Golden Times" served as a reflective piece, looking back on the golden moments of their career and life, while "Brother," a powerful ode to familial bonds, perfectly encapsulated their unique relationship and the complexities of working closely with family.

Throughout the evening, the Pierce Brothers not only performed songs but also shared personal anecdotes and expressions of gratitude, illustrating their genuine appreciation for their fans and the live music experience. This connection, fostered through shared stories and the communal live music experience, ensured that the audience left with a deeper understanding of the band, not just as musicians but as storytellers who continue to evolve and inspire.

A highlight of the evening was Jack’s spontaneous performance among the audience, transforming the entire venue into his stage. This moment not only highlighted his dynamic stage presence but also his ability to connect deeply with the crowd, ensuring everyone was part of the Pierce Brothers’ story.

The show reached a touching peak during the encore when a heartfelt proposal unfolded onstage — Jason proposing to Margaret, adding a personal touch that intertwined with the communal spirit of the night. The crowd’s euphoria was palpable, echoing the band’s gratitude for their fans’ unwavering support of live music.

The encore was a poignant trilogy starting with "Overdose" an intense reflection on the darker sides of human experience, followed by "Kanko," which offered a rhythmically vibrant contrast, showcasing their versatility and dynamic energy. Finally, "Flying Home" concluded the night on a high note, embodying the journey, both literal and metaphorical, that they undertake as touring musicians.

Adding to the evening’s charm, the opening act, Little Quirks, returned to join the brothers for the final song, blending their harmonies in a perfect crescendo that left everyone craving more. Their earlier set had already set a high bar, overcoming a snapped guitar string with grace and gusto.

Drawing from their recent reflections in an interview, the brothers have not only matured musically but personally. The depth of their latest album speaks to their life experiences, echoing sentiments of family, personal growth, and the realities of balancing life on and off the road.

Their acknowledgment of the significance of live performances, as shared in their heartfelt appreciation for their fans, was a common thread throughout the night. This mutual gratitude between the artists and the audience created a charged atmosphere that only heightened the overall experience.

The Lansdowne Hotel’s intimate setting, with its excellent sound production, complemented the raw, stripped-back essence of the Pierce Brothers’ performance, making it a night that those in attendance are unlikely to forget. As they continue to tour, the authenticity and passion that Jack and Patrick bring to every show are what will keep their fans returning, eager for more of the unique and heartfelt performances that have become their hallmark. For fans old and new, this was an experience that resonated deeply, reminding us all of the irreplaceable thrill of live music.

From their humble beginnings, busking on Melbourne’s Bourke Street, their music has taken them across the world—where they have picked up an amazing fanbase—including James Blunt whom they will support later this year. It will be fantastic to see the Pierce Brothers take their show to an even bigger stage and audience in November but there are plenty more opportunities to catch them showcasing their latest album and many fan favourites between now and then!
