Royel Otis - Meet Me In The Car Tour

Perth’s Ice Cream Factory was already buzzing before the main act hit the stage. The air hummed with anticipation as Irish rock band Florence Road opened the night. Their strong vocals, tight musicianship, and undeniable energy set the tone for what was to come, the crowd packed in early and loved every moment.

When Royel Otis finally appeared, the roar was instant. The Sydney duo — Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic — stepped onto a dimly lit stage framed by a huge projection screen, greeted by cheers that filled every corner of the venue. As the lights pulsed and vivid visuals rolled across the backdrop, the pair launched into a set that perfectly balanced dreamy indie pop with warm, easygoing energy.

From the first notes, it was clear this wasn’t just a gig, it was a shared experience. The crowd swayed and sang along, especially when the duo slipped into their now-famous Like a Version covers. Murder on the Dance Floor turned the room into a glittering dance floor, and Linger brought a wave of nostalgia as friends sang to each other, phones glowing in the air.

During Sofa King, the words “Perth, you’re so fucking gorgeous” lit up the screen behind them, sparking one of the loudest reactions of the night. Songs like Moody and I Wanna Dance With You had everyone dancing and laughing, carried by the band’s infectious, laid-back charisma. Despite the crowd’s energy, there was an effortless calm to the evening, that perfect mix of high spirits and hazy relaxation that defines a Royel Otis show. The visuals behind them, bold words, shifting colours, and nostalgic textures gave the performance a cinematic touch, wrapping the audience in their signature coastal dreamscape.

By the time the final notes faded, it felt like everyone in the room had shared something special. Royel Otis didn’t just perform, they created a moment, turning an ordinary Wednesday night into one of pure connection and joy
