Split Enz - Forever Enz Tour
Fifty years after Mental Notes first introduced the world to Split Enz, the legendary New Zealand outfit proved at Sydney’s TikTok Entertainment Centre that truly great songs never age. Playing to a capacity sold-out crowd of 8000 Split Enz fans, the atmosphere felt electric long before the band even stepped on stage. Fans of all ages packed the venue, creating a rare sense of occasion that felt both nostalgic and genuinely alive.
Helping kick off the epic night was a fantastic support set from Vika and Linda Bull, whose soulful harmonies and warm stage presence immediately connected with the Sydney crowd. Their performance perfectly set the tone for an evening celebrating some of the best and most enduring musical talent.
From the opening moments, Split Enz delivered a spectacular visual and musical experience. Massive high-definition graphic displays stretched across the arena, projecting larger-than-life images of Tim Finn, Neil Finn and the band dressed in their famously eccentric suits, outrageous hairstyles and unmistakably theatrical personas. The visuals transformed the show into a surreal art-rock celebration, perfectly capturing the quirky creativity that made Split Enz one of the most original bands of their era.
Musically, the band were sensational. I Got You, History Never Repeats, I See Red and Message to My Girl were met with deafening singalongs as thousands of fans shouted every lyric back toward the stage. Neil Finn’s vocals remained effortlessly melodic, while Tim Finn’s unpredictable energy and charisma commanded the arena throughout the night. Noel Crombie’s theatrical presence and Eddie Rayner’s brilliant keyboard arrangements added even more personality and depth to an already extraordinary performance.
Finishing the main set with the explosive I See Red, the TikTok crowd erupted completely, leaping from their seats and screaming every lyric and chorus in perfect unison. The energy inside the arena reached another level as the band briefly left the stage to thunderous applause before returning moments later for an emotional encore. Closing out the night to include the timeless I Hope I Never, Split Enz delivered a powerful and heartfelt finale that had the entire venue singing together beneath glowing lights and towering projections. It was a fitting ending to a concert that felt far more like a celebration of legacy, creativity and connection than simply another reunion tour.
Rather than simply revisiting old hits, Split Enz created a performance bursting with life, colour and personality. Tonight wasn’t just a concert — it was a reminder of why their music continues to resonate across generations and why their place in Australasian music history remains untouchable.
