The Rasmus - Weirdo Tour 2026
There aren’t many venues in Brisbane like The Triffid. A converted WWII aircraft hangar with high ceilings, steel beams and raw industrial charm, it already feels full of history before a single note is played.
On Friday night, it became the perfect stage for a long-awaited first; Finnish rock favourites The Rasmus playing their debut Australian show. As the opening stop of their Weirdo Tour 2026, celebrating their latest album 'Weirdo', the room was buzzing from the start, packed with longtime fans eager for a night they’d been waiting years to experience.
Melbourne four piece NTH RD set the tone early with 'River', filling the hangar with dark, captivating energy. Their layered guitars, steady rhythms and moody sound drew the crowd in, while frontman Dan Charlton’s heartfelt vocals gave the set real impact. By the time they finished with 'Endlessly', the cheers were loud and genuine. It was a confident, polished performance that set the tone perfectly for the night ahead.
When The Rasmus hit the stage, the energy in the hangar exploded. They opened with a mix of new tracks and fan favourites, keeping the crowd singing and moving from the first chorus to the last. Lauri Ylonen’s unmistakable voice was sharp and urgent, his restless movement across the stage driving the set forward and keeping the momentum high.
The middle of the show flowed seamlessly between old hits and fresh material. Fan favourites like 'Immortal' and 'October & April' had the audience singing along, while newer tracks such as 'Break These Chains' blended naturally. 'Not Like The Other Girls' sparked one of the loudest singalongs of the night, with 'Livin’ in a World Without You' and 'In My Life' keeping the energy alive and the crowd bouncing.
As the set built toward the finale with 'Falling' and 'Banksy', the anticipation in the room grew. The opening riff of 'In The Shadows' sent the audience into overdrive, every lyric shouted back at full volume. The main set closed with 'Weirdo', the title track from their latest album, a bold, defiant anthem that made the perfect statement to end the show. For the encore, Lauri returned alone for a stripped back acoustic version of 'Sail Away', before the full band returned to close the night on a high with 'Love Is a Bitch'.
For their first Australian show, The Rasmus delivered a performance that was energetic, heartfelt and completely worth the wait. With NTH RD setting the tone early and a headline set packed with hits and fresh energy, The Triffid hosted a night fans won’t forget. If this is how the Weirdo Tour has started, the rest of Australia is in for something very special.
