Festival X - Laura King

Festival X is only weeks away now and we can’t wait! The 2022 edition of Festival X sees a HUGE line-up of chart-topping, award-winning Australian and International artists and bands set to take the stage in 5 cities around the country. MFA caught up with some of the line-up to ask them all about Festival X, what fans can look forward to and who they’re keen to see. First up…local female DJ, Laura King.

You have been announced as one of the Artists to perform at Festival X, happening throughout Australia in November/December, are you excited to be a part of the biggest touring EDM, Bass & Hip Hop festival to ever happen in Australia?

Yes I’m very excited! So lucky to be a part of this amazing festival:)

Are you glad to be getting back to performing in front of real crowds after the craziness of the last few years?

So so happy! For a while there I thought I might have to change careers :( and that was very depressing.

Will this be your first time performing at a festival of this size and scale? What are you anticipating?

It won’t be my first time but I don’t often play to crowds this big so I am a bit nervous…but yeah it’s not my first rodeo;) so I’m certainly ready and pumped for it!

How do you prepare yourself for a massive event like Festival X?

With a big festival gig like this one, I will have my set pretty well planned which relieves a lot of extra pressure. But depending on how I’m feeling and what the crowd response is like I will more than likely change things up in the moment :)

This one will be a bit more on the warm-up side of things for all the internationals after me ;) but dw it will still be spicy

What can fans expect from your upcoming performances at Festival X?

Well considering I’m playing pretty early on in the evening this time around, I will be playing a bit different to my usual style. This one will be a bit more on the warm-up side of things for all the internationals after me ;) but dw it will still be spicy! Similar to my PURE sets.

What's the one song from your catalogue that you always slip into a set for a festival event?

My favourite song always changes. But atm I love playing L.U.V by Sindex

Apart from your own, whose set are you most looking forward to at Festival X?

Boysnoize and Nina Kraviz

If you could collaborate with any artist off the extensive line-up, who would it be and why?

Nina !! Because I love her style of music and she has always inspired me

it challenges me to play something a little different and proves my versatility as an artist
— Laura King

What are the best and worst parts of being on a multi-artist bill? Do egos ever get in the way or does it just add to the party?

It makes things a bit different for me because I can’t play my usual fast style… the internationals usually get to play the closing sets for a number of reasons but I actually don’t mind it because it challenges me to play something a little different and proves my versatility as an artist :)

Do you find that festivals like, Festival X present your songs to a new fan base, including people who have never heard your music before?

Yeah for sure. I always gain a bunch of new followers across all platforms after these bigger shows which is really cool

What’s the one essential you HAVE to take on the tour?

Earplugs! Every bit of sleep you can get counts !!

Who in your touring entourage or team deserves a shout out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?

Kyle Hand and Richie McNeill- my managers !! God knows what I would be doing without all their hard work and persistence in the background <3

Do you have a message for your Fans?

Thank you to my loyal fans who have been there from the start and who have been on this journey with me :) It’s very humbling to know that my music taste resonates with so many others ! X
