Good Gumnuts & Ruby Fields
Good Gumnuts Festival is a family-friendly event that aims to celebrate music, culture, and lifestyle in an inclusive way. The 2nd edition of the Good Gumnuts is set to take place on the 5th & 6th of January in Heybridge, Tasmania, with a giant roster of Australian artists and bands from a variety of genres. We caught up with Ruby Fields to ask about their Good Gumnuts preparations, what can fans look forward to and who they would join on stage from the extensive lineup.
You are one of the acts announced for the 2023 Gumnut Festival happening in Tasmania in Jan 2024 Are you excited to be a part of this line-up of Australian musical talent?
It’s always super fun being a part of any festival, especially one consisting of all Australian bands. It’s nice running into old and new faces.
How do you prepare yourself for a festival event like Good Gumnuts Festival?
I’d say we prepare in the same way before most shows, and that’s to sit on our own, as the four of us with whatever crew we have working it and have a moment to reflect on how grateful we are to do what we do with each other and perform for people that care. It’s good to bring ourselves back to that, especially to connect so when we go on stage we’re already centered. Specifically for Gumnuts I think there will be an added element of groundedness as we’re driving ourselves down from various places in Aus on the spirit to have a surf trip around it. We all adore Tassie.
What can punters expect from your upcoming performance in glorious Tasmania?
Everyone can expect a passionate performance from a bunch of mates singing about life.
If you could jump on stage and collab with any artist or band from the Gumnuts line-up, who would it be and why?
I actually love the Kingswood guys, I think that would be a cool mix up of genres. I remember when their song ‘Golden’ came out I played it non stop.
Do you find festivals are a good way to expand your fanbase as you can showcase your music to people who haven’t heard you before?
Definitely. At a festival you’re getting a way larger platform of people who could stumble past your stage and realise they like your music. Festivals are such a great way to showcase a variety of music.
What’s the one song from your catalogue that you HAVE to include in a festival set and why?
I’d say ‘Trouble’ is always a fezzy must for us. It’s one off our second EP and it’s fast and fun and so enjoyable to play.
What's your favourite festival memory either as a scheduled act or as an attendee?
I think playing our first Splendour in 2019 will always be etched into our brains. The way we connected on stage, laughed, cried, it all felt super real and I’ll never forget it. Keen to make more memories like that.
Do you have a message for the attendees that are coming to see you play at Good Gumnuts Festival?
Can’t wait to play for yas and then join everyone to watch all the other bands. Thanks for having us!
