Good Gumnuts & Kim Churchill
Good Gumnuts Festival is a family-friendly event that aims to celebrate music, culture, and lifestyle in an inclusive way. The 2nd edition of the Good Gumnuts is set to take place on the 5th & 6th of January in Heybridge, Tasmania, with a giant roster of Australian artists and bands from a variety of genres. We caught up with Kim Churchill to ask about their Good Gumnuts preparations, what can fans look forward to and who they would join on stage from the extensive lineup
You are one of the acts announced for the 2023 Gumnut Festival happening in Tasmania in Jan 2024 Are you excited to be a part of this line-up of Australian musical talent?
Absolutely! Its been beautiful watching this festival grow over the last few years and I’ve been honoured to have been involved since the beginning. The line up this year is so cool and I’m chuffed to be involved again.
How do you prepare yourself for a festival event like Good Gumnuts Festival?
Basically just reach out to friends and make sure we’re on the same page for a good catch up. Maker sure I’ve got my flights booked and the right gear and stay in a good headspace to make beautiful music in a beautiful place.
What can punters expect from your upcoming performance in glorious Tasmania?
Its a high energy folk show. My goal is always to cry, laugh and dance. If all these things go down then the show was a complete success.
If you could jump on stage and collab with any artist or band from the Gumnuts line-up, who would it be and why?
Ruby Fields for sure. She’s incredible and inspiring and an absolute gem. We’ve done a little stuff together in the past and it was so fun and I’d love to do more!
Do you find festivals are a good way to expand your fanbase as you can showcase your music to people who haven’t heard you before?
Yeah for sure. Their also just full of good vibes. Playing music within this energy and environment is always constructive and well worth the trip.
What’s the one song from your catalogue that you HAVE to include in a festival set and why?
‘Window to the Sky’. Its always gotta come out and I’m happy for that. Its done me a lotta good that song.
What's your favourite festival memory either as a scheduled act or as an attendee?
Watching an impending storm about to blast Robert Plant off the pyramid stage at Glastonbury slowly part and stop just before it hit. It backed off and the sun came out and Robert and the band played ‘Rainbow’. It was freekin biblical.
Do you have a message for the attendees that are coming to see you play at Good Gumnuts Festival?
Have fun, relax and be a big family. Support these little festivals and go every year. The ritual is so wholesome and nourishing.
