Australia's Harts is back!!
Australian musician and songwriter Harts has released his new track ‘Summer In June’. Created in his home studio, ‘Summer In June’ was written, produced, mixed and mastered entirely by Harts and is the artist’s first release for 2024 under the Harts moniker. We caught up with the Aussie "A one-man music-making machine" to chat about the new song and what the future holds for Harts.
For those that haven’t heard your music before, how do you describe the Harts sound?
It’s a tough one to try to describe. I think it’s a blend of Funk, Rock, Electronic and Alternative Pop music, inspired by a lot of music that doesn’t quite fit into any direct genre. There’s a lot of rock and blues guitar elements, there’s also a lot of disco influence. I love to create a lot of different styles of music.
You have just released your new track titled 'Summer In June'. Tell us about the new song.
This one is an electro-funk track about looking for brighter days. It’s both a trip down memory lane and the start of a new journey. Revisiting the style of electro-funk music that I loved so much growing up, the style that I incorporated into my sound in the early days.
I wanted to revisit those fun, energetic guitar-based grooves once more and use them as a pillar to establish more of what’s to come in the near future.
'Summer In June' comes from your forthcoming new album, what else can fans expect from this new body of work?
From what I’ve been announcing so far, I think fans are just excited to see me back releasing music. I’ve been contemplating whether taking the album route is still the best way for me to go, or adopting a new singles-focused approach. Mostly, I think fans can expect more of what they loved from my previous works, as well as a lot of growth as a musician and songwriter, and a lot more room still to grow.
Is the new LP a continuation of your previous albums or an evolution?
For my first 3 full-length albums, I look at all of them as tied together in some sort of broader existence. They all seem to complement each other, and I think they work well as a discography. This one I’m working on I don’t think is a direct continuation, but it still sounds like me and builds on from the foundation the first 3 have laid down.
You record in your own home studio, so does having access 24/7 to a recording studio make things easier or more complicated?
It makes things so much easier for me. I’ve always produced music from home in some capacity, even when all I had was a portable 8-track digital recorder and 1 mic. I think I’m just used to recording at home now and I know how to navigate the home recording challenges and advantages.
Are there plans to tour for the album after its release?
I want to, for sure! For me now, it’s figuring out in what capacity I can afford to - creatively, financially and scheduling-wise. I’m working on a few ideas right now, but nothing is ready to announce as yet.
You have been described as the "real deal" and "A one-man music-making machine", how does this praise sit with you?
I think it freaks me out a bit, ha. It’s a little surreal and strange. But it’s always encouraging and really motivating to see and hear things like that. That kind of praise is very hard to get in this industry, so I definitely appreciate all the kind words.
Who in your crew or team deserves a shout out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?
My wife. I do give her shoutouts, but honestly, she deserves many more! She has always been there behind the scenes supporting and helping me with everything from filming, social media content, touring, helping backstage at the shows and much more. She keeps the Harts ship sailing as much as I do!
What's next for Harts? What can fans look forward to?
More new music! I think that’s the big one right now. It’s been a long time coming but I’m just super excited to be back releasing new music as Harts again.
