It’s Playlunch time at Good Gumnuts

Good Gumnuts Festival is a family-friendly event that aims to celebrate music, culture, and lifestyle in an inclusive way. The 3rd edition of the Good Gumnuts Festival is set to take place on the 4th & 5th of January in Burnie, Tasmania, with a giant roster of Australian artists and bands from a variety of genres. We caught up with Playlunch, who is performing at the festival, to ask them about their Good Gumnuts preparations, what fans can look forward to and who they would like to join on stage from the extensive lineup.

You are one of the acts announced for the 2025 Gumnut Festival happening in Tasmania on the 4th & 5th of January.  Are you looking forward to starting the year off as part of this all-Australian line-up?

We are STOKED to be coming down for Good Gumnuts. It’s our first time playing in Tassie, and the lineup looks incredible. By all reports it’s an awesome festival, and we’re counting the days till we get to come party with everyone

How do you prepare yourself for a festival event like the Good Gumnuts Festival?

We play lots of gigs in lots of different settings, but ultimately all of them are just training days for the main event: festival sets. We make sure to arrive on stage warmed up and hydrated, but the real prep is the mental game of remembering what we’re there to do and to give the crowd the absolute best time we can. With this in mind, we usually like to gather as a team around the drum kit just before kicking off, put our heads together and chant some affirmation or blessing to put us in the right mindset before launching into our opening track - nothing matters to us more than giving the crowd the best fucking time possible, and we’ve found the only way to do that is to make sure we’re doing the same thing.

What can punters expect from your upcoming performance in glorious Burnie?

Pool noodles, Zinc, Aths Day chants. A good time - by whatever means necessary.

If you could jump on stage and collaborate with any artist or band from the Gumnuts line-up, who would it be and why?

We caught Alex Lahey last year at NYE on the Hill and she was fucking incredible. Would love to do something we that crew.

What’s the one song from your back catalogue you will definitely be including in your Good Gumnuts set and why?

Our debut album’s last track “Tanbark” seems to be a real winner with crowds. It’s a great one for early in the set to get the audience pumped up and ready to party, it requires shouting the words “GET PISSED” as loud as possible and it’s a good gauge for who we’re dealing with.

What's your favourite festival memory either as a scheduled act or as an attendee?

We just wrapped up at BIGSOUND in Brisbane and that was absolutely incredible. We went there just excited to be involved but had no idea we’d end up with a crowd of more than 1200 people packed into Brunswick Street Mall. There’s nothing like playing to a buzzing crowd like that, especially when so many of them are seeing you for the first time and you get to try and win them over - we really come alive in those settings

Do you have a message for the attendees who are coming to see you play at the Good Gumnuts Festival?

If we throw a pool noodle at you during our set, please and if you feel compelled to throw something at the band, aim for the lead singer - it’s why we put him in front!
