Vikki Thorn the Wildflower

This Saturday sees the second installment of the Wildflower concert series, a celebration of women in music. The lucky people of Brisbane will get to experience some of the best female talent this country has ever produced including the amazing Vikki Thorn, who not only has had success in her band The Waifs but in her solo career as Thornbird. Vikki has released her first solo album and is currently touring the country to introduce her new music to fans while also participating in the Wildflower concerts. We spoke to Vikki about what fans can expect to see at the Wildflower shows, equality for women in the Australian music scene and the essentials she needs for going on tour.

You have been announced as one of the Wildflower Women, one of Australia’s talented ladies heading up the very first Wildflower Festival. Are you excited to be a*part of this celebration of women in music?

Excited , elated , ecstatic ,eager - this is Australian music making history

Empire Touring’s General Manager, Isobel Lanesman has said “many festival lineups have an underrepresentation of women. It is a time to celebrate women in Australian music “. Do you believe there is equal opportunity, within the industry?

It always stood out to me to see women rockin the mainstages at festivals. I guess because there wasn’t as many. There has been an imbalance of representation but thankfully it’s changing . There are so many wonderful kickass women artists on the scene and managers, publicists, promoters doing their thing and making a mark in those spaces now .

How do you prepare yourself for an event like Wildflower?

To be fully present in the moment and ready to give out the joy

What can we expect from your upcoming performance at the celebration of women?

A rockin set of tunes .

Apart from your own, which set are you most looking forward to at Wildflower?

Every. Single. Set.

If you could collaborate with any artist from the Wildflower line-up, who would it be and why?

Every. Single. One.

There are so many wonderful kickass women artists on the scene and managers, publicists, promoters doing their thing and making a mark in those spaces now .

The festival will tour the East Coast, hitting the three capitals, are you excited to be hitting the road with the girls?

In my head we are hitting the road hanging out and singing songs together , travelling on a sista train that speeds through the night leaving the sound of our laughter ringing in the night

What’s the one essential you HAVE to take on the tour?

Some pointy boots

For those that haven’t heard your music before, how would you describe your sound?

Feel Good

What do your songs mean to you? Are there any particularly close to your heart?

My song Big Girls Pants is a mantra of self empowerment to forward momentum. And it’s fun to sing

Who in your crew or team deserves a shout out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?

Kait Hall - lighting engineer is an incredible artist . She works long and hard hours to make sure her gigs look stunning . And still turns up to have a chat and check in .

As well as Wildflower, what can we look forward to from you in 2022 ?

You can look forward to me getting off social media for a while
