Festival X - Sammy the Sinner

Festival X is only a couple of weeks away now and we can’t wait! The 2022 edition of Festival X sees a HUGE line-up of chart-topping, award-winning Australian and International artists and bands set to take the stage in 5 cities around the country. MFA caught up with some of the line-up to ask them all about Festival X, what fans can look forward to and who they’re keen to see we caught up with Perth DJ, Sammy the Sinner.

Will this be your first time performing at a festival of this size and scale? What are you anticipating?

I’ve played for festivals in the past but Festival X will be one of the biggest to date. I am heading over to NZ shortly after to play another three festivals so this show will definitely set the bar high. I’m expecting a sea full of bass heads moshing their hearts out to some heavy rollers.

How do you prepare yourself for a massive event like Festival X?

A whole lot of coffee does the trick haha although I usually reach out to my producer friends from across the globe for dubs and I also explore various labels for new music. Once I have a bunch of bangers ready to go, I throw them into a software called Mixed in Key to ensure that all of my tracks blend perfectly. It’s a finicky process but I like to make sure my performances are seamless and high energy from the get-go.

What can fans expect from your upcoming performances at Festival X?

Expect a steaming hot, high-energy DnB performance full of Rollers, Jump-Up and dance floor bangers. I’ll have you moshing your heart out as soon as I hit play.

What's the one song from your catalogue that you always slip into a set for a festival event?

A staple tune that you will forever hear in my sets is Offenders by Dimension. I love the energy the crowd gives whenever I drop this 4x4 banger in my set.

there’s so many epic artists on the bill

Apart from your own, who's set are you most looking forward to seeing at Festival X?

That’s such a hard question because there’s so many epic artists on the bill but I'd have to say I’m mostly keen to see Sub Focus, Wilkinson, Tchami, Megan The Stallion, Calvin Harris, Green Velvet, Luude and Choomba to name a few. I’m pretty keen to just run a muck and see what stage I end up at. That’s usually how it goes.

If you could collaborate with any artist off the extensive line-up, who would it be and why?

I would have to say Megan Thee Stallion because her vocals on a DnB tune would be ICONIC.

I’m just genuinely happy to be there amongst some of the most successful artists in the music world.

What are the best and worst parts of being on a multi-artist bill? Do egos ever get in the way or does it just add to the party?

I’m not an egocentric type of girl - I’m just genuinely happy to be there amongst some of the most successful artists in the music world.

Do you find that festivals like, Festival X present your songs to a new fan base, including people who have never heard your music before?

It will be a great opportunity to showcase some of my latest work as well as perform to people who may not be familiar with my style of DnB. I always find it super exciting when I play to an eclectic bunch of people as it gives me the opportunity to educate them about UK DnB.

It’s only the beginning of what’s to come

What’s the one essential you HAVE to take on the tour?

LAPTOP! I learnt the hard way. My first-ever tour I didn’t have a laptop and my USB corrupted. It was an absolute nightmare.

Who in your touring entourage or team deserves a shout-out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?

I feel so humbled to have such an amazing agent Joel and manager Ant. They have paved the way for my success and have given me opportunities that I never would have thought were possible. Also just a quick shoutout to my girlfriend Charlotte, she’s the ultimate hype girl/tour manager. Always makes sure that I'm well hydrated and nourished but is also the little devil on my shoulder telling me to dance.

Do you have a message for your Fans?

Thank you for streaming, sharing and supporting my music. It's only the beginning of what’s to come and I'm so grateful for everyone that has supported me.
